Vijay's visit is part of an ongoing exercise within the party where all TVK MLAs were instructed to visit their respective constituencies to thank the voters
Chennai, May 31 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay will visit Tiruchirappalli on June 1 to thank the voters of Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency from where he won and subsequently resigned his seat, party sources said on Sunday.
TVK president Vijay had successfully contested from both Tiruchirappalli East and Perambur (Chennai) Assembly constituencies in the recently held Assembly elections.
In Tiruchirappalli East, he won with a comfortable margin of 27,416 votes against his nearest DMK rival S Inigo Irudayaraj.
He also defeated DMK candidate R D Shekar in the Perambur constituency by a margin of 53,715 votes. However, Vijay opted to resign the Trichirappalli seat to retain Perambur.
TVK sources said Vijay is scheduled to leave from Chennai in a chartered flight and would reach Trichirappalli by around 4 pm. He will take part in a "thanksgiving meeting" at St Joseph’s college there.
The CM is also expected to interact with TVK cadres during a meeting besides reviewing the development of ongoing projects in Tiruchirappalli.
Vijay's visit is also a part of an ongoing exercise within the party where all TVK MLAs were instructed to visit their respective constituencies to thank the voters.
Meanwhile, at a press conference in Tiruchirappalli, Assembly Deputy Speaker M Ravi Shankar and TVK leader Ku Pa Krishnan said that preparations were in full swing anticipating a larger crowd.
They also urged the TVK cadres not to follow the chief minister's convoy vehicles to prevent untoward incidents.
Police said elaborate arrangements are being made ahead of the CM's visit. Traffic diversions have been announced around the meeting venue, they added. PTI
