Congress Rajya Sabha MP Praveen Chakravarty hailed Chief Minister Vijay's performance in the first few weeks of his tenure, saying he had already "triggered a revolution" in Tamil Nadu and made a strong start with his focus on eradicating corruption.

Speaking to The Federal on the occasion of Vijay's 52nd birthday, Chakravarty said the Chief Minister was aware of the high expectations people had from his government, and had prioritised delivering a corruption-free administration.

Anti-corruption push

"There was a very clear message during the campaign, at the time of taking the oath, and in the first Cabinet meeting that our first goal is to tackle corruption," Chakravarty said, adding that the government's anti-corruption push had resonated strongly with the public.

His remarks come amid criticism from the Opposition over law and order concerns, crimes against women, and reports of intermittent power cuts during the government's first 45 days in office.

Dismissing the attacks, Chakravarty said it was the Opposition's job to raise such issues, but insisted the government remained focused on addressing them.

"I'm sure the team is focused on law and order and power-related issues," he said.

Blames Centre for projects moving out of TN

On the economic front, Chakravarty blamed the Centre for the decline in foreign direct investment and concerns over industries choosing neighbouring Andhra Pradesh over Tamil Nadu for fresh investments.

He alleged that the Union government was influencing investment decisions and pushing projects towards politically-favoured states. Referring to semiconductor investments by Tamil Nadu-based companies in Gujarat, he questioned why firms would look elsewhere despite Tamil Nadu's strong manufacturing ecosystem.
