TN police awaiting state govt nod to appoint nodal officer to assist ED
ED facing delays in prosecution in several key probes, including one into Tasmac, due to absence of nodal officer, senior IPS officer tells The Federal
Tamil Nadu police has admitted that it is awaiting approval from the state government to appoint a nodal officer to assist the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in its investigation of several alleged scams in the state.
The federal agency faces a delay in prosecution because of the absence of a nodal officer, a senior IPS officer confirmed.

The officer revealed that a request from the ED was received in 2024, and it was promptly forwarded to the Home Department.
"We are awaiting home department clearance, and will appoint an SP (superintendent of police) rank officer once it is cleared by the government," he told The Federal on condition of anonymity.
Lack of officer
On Tuesday (May 20), The Federal reported that the ED is struggling to investigate multiple scams, including the alleged ₹1,000 crore Tasmac liquor scam, and that the main hurdle is the state’s alleged failure to appoint a nodal officer to assist central agencies like the ED, CBI, and Customs, making Tamil Nadu the only state in India without one.

The ED had slammed the Tamil Nadu police for not appointing a nodal officer under Financial Action Task Force (FATF) norms despite multiple reminders.
