‘No permission to resign’: Tamil Nadu BJP chief alleges party workers being brainwashed
Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagendran urges party cadres not to resign after K Annamalai's departure, rejecting claims of a setback to BJP
Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran, alleging that some BJP members are being “brainwashed” into thinking that they have the approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah to resign from the party following the resignation of his predecessor K Annamalai, urged party members on Saturday (June 6) not to believe in rumours or outside influences.
Warning against resignations
"Yesterday, Annamalai resigned from the BJP, and it has been accepted by the party. Some members are being brainwashed and made to claim that they have Modi or Amit Shah's blessings to resign. I want to make it clear that nobody has been given permission to resign,” said Nagendran.

Speaking to reporters, he reiterated his claim that the BJP has suffered no loss due to the exit of Annamalai.
"I appeal to the BJP cadres not to believe anyone and refrain from resigning. Those who are part of another movement or party cannot remain members of the BJP. There is no setback for the party following Annamalai's resignation,” added the state BJP chief.
‘No loss to BJP’
Earlier on Friday, responding to questions about Annamalai's resignation and his plans to launch a separate political outfit, Nagendran dismissed suggestions that the BJP would be affected by the move.

"There is no loss", Nagendran said when asked about the former Tamil Nadu BJP President's resignation and decision to start a new political "movement".
Soon after stepping down from the BJP, Annamalai announced the launch of a new political party and said it would enter the fray in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

"Today, we are going to start a movement. Our political party will contest in the next assembly election in Tamil Nadu," he said.
Explaining the circumstances leading to his exit, Annamalai said he had conveyed his decision to the BJP leadership ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections.
"It was a great conflict whether I am a BJP person or a Tamilian. I told the party on 4th December 2025 that I am going to resign. The party asked me to finish the elections and then go," he said.
