Ahead of TN polls, S Ramadoss returns as PMK chief; son now working president
PMK founder says move is “purely to lead and mentor the next generation” during the crucial period ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu polls
Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S Ramadoss has announced that he will formally take charge as the party president, while his son Anbumani Ramadoss will act as the working president.
The move is significant, considering the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections next year, and the senior Ramadoss told the media in Thailapuram on Wednesday (April 9) that the decision was part of a broader strategy to strengthen the party structure ahead of the polls and implement key action plans.

Move to ‘guide younger generation’
“As the founder of PMK, I am taking up the role of party President with full commitment. This decision is aimed at guiding the younger generation and ensuring the party’s victory,” he said.
Anbumani, who was serving as the party president, will now be the working president. “This move is purely to lead and mentor the next generation during this crucial period,” said the senior Ramadoss, clarifying that he had “no desire for posts”.
To further queries on the reasons behind the move, he said they were “many”.
