Stalin slams TVK regime, says ‘change’ in TN has turned into ‘bitter disappointment’
The DMK chief appeared to blame TVK voters for the current situation, urging people, especially the youth, to “think deeply and act wisely”
DMK chief MK Stalin on Monday (August 24) hit out at the state of affairs in Tamil Nadu, saying the “change” brought about in the state had now turned into a “bitter disappointment”.
Stalin appeared to be referring to those who voted for the TVK in the April 2026 Assembly elections, after which the party formed its first government in the state.

Calling on people, especially the youth, to understand the forces behind the current situation, Stalin urged them to “think deeply and act wisely” in the days ahead to bring about a change.
“A change took place in Tamil Nadu, but as party deputy general secretary A Raja pointed out earlier, that change has turned into disappointment. A mistake made by lakhs of people is now troubling crores of people. This situation has to change,” Stalin said. He also urged the younger generation to recognise who created the conditions that enabled social progress.

Stalin made these remarks while attending the wedding of Dr Ilakkiya, granddaughter of veteran film producer and his close relative Amirtham, with Dr Giridhara.
Stalin recalls family legacy
While noting that he did not wish to turn a family function into a political platform, Stalin remarked that the family comprised generations of doctors because of past welfare policies and social justice movements, a legacy he claimed today’s youth often overlook.
Recalling his upbringing, Stalin shared personal anecdotes about Amirtham, the son of the late DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi’s sister, alongside former Union Minister Murasoli Maran and Murasoli Selvam. He noted that the three relatives were instrumental in shaping the education and careers of Karunanidhi's children.
“While Murasoli Maran was composed and Murasoli Selvam was gentle, Amirtham was very strict. He even slapped me on the cheek to discipline me while raising us,” Stalin recounted.
The event saw the attendance of former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, DMK treasurer TR Baalu, deputy general secretary A Raja, organising secretary RS Bharathi, poet Vairamuthu, and DMK youth wing leader Udhayanidhi Stalin.
