Tamil Nadu: Explosion at Sivakasi firecracker unit kills 3, injures as many

While workers were engaged in their routine firecracker production activities, friction during the mixing of chemicals triggered an explosion


Three workers were killed and three others sustained serious injuries in an explosion at a private firecracker manufacturing unit near Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district on Saturday (April 26).

The accident occurred at Standard Fireworks, a private fireworks unit owned by Rajarathinam, located in the M Pudupatti area near Sivakasi. The firecracker unit has over 80 rooms and employs more than a hundred workers.

While workers were engaged in their routine firecracker production activities, friction during the mixing of chemicals triggered an explosion. Three workers died on the spot, and three others were injured.

Firefighters from Sivakasi rushed to the scene and trying to completely extinguish the fire. The injured have been admitted to the Sivakasi Government Hospital for treatment.

Police and revenue department officials have arrived at the site, with investigations into the fire accident underway amid tight security.
