TASMAC ‘scam’ allegations political deception: TN CM Stalin slams Opposition
After submitting a memorandum to PM Modi on key state issues, Stalin returns from Delhi with hope and confidence in central govt’s commitment to state’s development
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin dismissed allegations of a Rs 5,000 crore sand mining ‘scam’ and a Rs 1,000 crore TASMAC's alleged liquor scam raised by ED and Opposition parties as “political deception” and “utter lies”.

Addressing the media before departing from Delhi, Stalin accused the Opposition of orchestrating these claims for electoral gains, asserting that there was no truth to the allegations. “The concerned minister has provided a proper explanation, and we are ready to face these accusations,” he stated.
Positive response
During his Delhi visit, CM Stalin met Prime Minister Narendra Modi after attending the NITI Aayog meeting and handed over a memorandum outlining key issues concerning Tamil Nadu: the release of pending Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) funds, approval of Metro rail projects for Coimbatore and Madurai, expansion of airports in Coimbatore and Madurai, establishment of AIIMS in Coimbatore, and the recurring attacks on Tamil fishermen and their detention by the Sri Lankan Navy.
Expressing satisfaction with the meeting, Stalin noted that PM Modi assured action on the state’s concerns. He specifically thanked the prime minister for addressing the funding issues related to the Metro Rail project. Quoting Modi, Stalin said, “You came and asked for funds, and I helped you.”
Takes a dig at EPS
Responding to criticism from AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) regarding his Delhi trip, Stalin clarified that his visit was official, unlike EPS’s “personal trips”. Taking a dig at the Opposition leader, he remarked, “I don’t have a white flag or, like him, a saffron flag,” alluding to political affiliations.
Stalin also confirmed his customary meetings with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi during his Delhi visit, during which they discussed various political matters. “Whenever I visit Delhi, I meet them without fail,” he added.
Focus on governance
The chief minister’s statements came amid heightened political activity in Tamil Nadu, with the Opposition intensifying its criticism ahead of upcoming elections. Stalin’s dismissal of the alleged scams and his emphasis on productive discussions with the central government underscore his focus on governance and development for the state.
