Anna University case: CM Stalin lauds police for swift action

The Chief Minister also praised the investigating officers, government advocates, and the court for speedy justice


Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday (May 28) lauded the state police for their swift action in delivering justice for a Chennai student who was subjected to sexual assault at the Anna University campus. In a statement, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the investigating officers, public prosecutors, and the judiciary for concluding the case within five months.

"Our police have conducted the case expeditiously, ensuring justice for the Chennai student within just five months. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the investigating officers, government advocates, and the esteemed court," Stalin said in a post on X.

He emphasised the state’s commitment to maintaining law and order, stating, "I have consistently told our police force: 'No crime should occur, but if it does, no culprit should escape. Investigations must be swift, and punishment must be ensured.'"

Opposition doing petty politics

Taking a swipe at the Opposition, Stalin accused them of running a "den of crimes" during their tenure and now resorting to slander and cheap politics. "We have shattered the calculations of those who spread falsehoods and engaged in petty politics. We will always uphold justice and ensure the safety of women," he added.

The case, related to a sexual assault incident involving a student at Anna University, saw the Chennai Mahila Court deliver its verdict on May 28, 2025, declaring the accused, Gnanasekaran, guilty on all charges.
