TVK regional offices are unofficial, fan-created, clarifies party HQ
The clarification comes after supporters inaugurated a ‘unit’ in West Bengal and claimed plans to open more offices in the state
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party headquarters has stated that it has not authorised any office outside Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, even as local organisers inaugurated what they called the party’s first West Bengal unit at Fagupur in Purba Bardhaman on Sunday (September 28).
On the ground, about 40 workers, most of them young, gathered with state coordinators Sanjay D and Chaitali Roy. Sanjay D, a businessman from Burdwan, said the unit already has around 5,000 members and that the next office will open in Kolkata before Durga Puja, followed by Murshidabad and Malda.

Outreach, he said, began on June 22, coinciding with Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s birthday. The event was marked by blood donation, food kits and wheelchairs in Burdwan and Malda. Sanjay said they identified education and jobs as priorities, and any electoral plans will be decided after “public response and directions from the central leadership.”
TVK HQ responds
When The Federal contacted TVK headquarters in Chennai, senior officials gave a different account. They indicated that while offices were reportedly opened in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, they may have been set up without approval from the head office or party president. Officially, they said, no offices have been opened beyond Tamil Nadu.
“If the leader’s fans start offices and branches here and there without approval, how can we take responsibility?,” a party member questioned.
TVK clarified that it officially operates only in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and that it has appointed no official office-bearers in other states. The party added that enthusiastic supporters have been opening offices on their own.
Why did the unofficial units appear?
TVK headquarters traced the issue of unofficial units to social media first, followed by physical offices. After the party formed the Tamil Nadu government in May 2026, Hindi-language reels and videos praising CM Vijay and his administration began circulating widely across northern and eastern states. Officials said some of these clips contained factual inaccuracies.

At the same time, people across several states opened social-media pages that presented themselves as official TVK units and began posting party news. Those pages, headquarters insists, are neither authorised nor recognised. The same energy then moved offline, the party official added.
Fan-driven “branch offices” followed the viral content. Party sources said the Hindi social-media buzz led to physical premises in places such as Fagupur, with similar claims emerging in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
