Vijay speaks to press before Madurai visit, urges fans to stay safe
Vijay dispelled rumours over his Madurai visit, clarifying that it is not a political but a personal visit; he also urged fans not to follow his car on bikes
Tamil superstar and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Thursday (May 1) addressed the media at Chennai airport before boarding a flight to Madurai.
Putting an end to rumours circulating on social media about his visit to Madurai, Vijay said it is not a political trip but a personal and professional one.
Jana Nayagan film shoot
Vijay is heading to Kodaikanal from Madurai for the shooting of his upcoming film Jana Nayagan, which is said to be his final cinematic project before he begins to fully focus on his political career.
Speaking to reporters, Vijay said, “There’s a lot of false information spreading on social media about my Madurai visit. I want to make it clear that this is not a political visit. It’s for my professional work. I’m going to Kodaikanal for the Jana Nayagan shoot.”

He also promised to meet his fans and TVK cadres soon at a party event, similar to the recent successful booth committee seminar in Coimbatore. “Like I met you all in Coimbatore, I will meet you soon at a TVK event. Please wait for that,” he added, addressing his supporters.
Reckless behaviour of fans
Vijay expressed deep concern over the reckless behaviour of some fans and cadres who chase his convoy on bikes, often without wearing helmets. “I feel very sad and worried when I see my fans riding bikes without helmets to follow me. This is dangerous. I urge everyone to prioritise safety and avoid such actions,” he said, emphasising the importance of road safety. His appeal came after reports of chaotic scenes during his visits to other cities with enthusiastic supporters causing traffic disruptions.
The actor also took a moment to extend his May Day wishes to workers across Tamil Nadu.
Fans gather at Madurai airport
Despite Vijay’s clear message to avoid a gathering at Madurai airport, hundreds of fans thronged the premises. Fans began assembling as early as 6 am, even though Vijay was scheduled to land at 4 pm. This led to concerns about crowd control, especially after police warnings to maintain order.

TVK senior members stepped in to manage the situation.
Rumours also surfaced about Vijay planning a road show in Madurai, similar to the one he held in Coimbatore on April 26, 2025, which caused significant traffic congestion along Avinashi Road. However, Vijay firmly dismissed these claims, urging fans not to follow him this time.
