Vijay govt anti-corruption drive: Ex-minister Sivasankar summoned in Rs 23L job scam case
Complainant alleges ex-minister, whom he met through ‘aide,’ assured him job and spoke to him multiple times over phone to build trust
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Chennai police has registered a case linking former minister SS Sivasankar to a job scam, as part of the latest anti-corruption action taken by the Joseph Vijay government in Tamil Nadu.
A summons has been issued to Sivasankar, a DMK MLA from Kunnam constituency, requiring him to appear for questioning in connection with the ₹23 lakh government job fraud case, at 10 am on July 1.
Met minister through aide: complainant
In the FIR (FIR No. 0061/2026) registered on June 23 at CCB-I of Chennai city, retired police Sub-Inspector Srinivasan has accused one Elanchezhiyan, a resident of Ariyalur district, of cheating him of Rs 23 lakh by promising him a government job.
According to Srinivasan, Elanchezhiyan claimed to be the personal assistant of Sivasankar when the latter was the Minister for Transport in the MK Stalin government in 2023. He allegedly told the complainant that he had direct access to the minister.

The complainant also claimed that he met Sivasankar in person at the Secretariat, where the minister reportedly assured him that the money paid would reach the right hands and a job would be secured. Srinivasan further alleged that Sivasankar spoke to him multiple times over the phone, building confidence in the deal.
‘Aide’ arrested on June 24
The offence is said to have occurred from March 25, 2023, onwards. The FIR invokes Sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. The CCB arrested Elanchezhiyan on June 24.

Police have sealed properties belonging to the accused in Ariyalur district. The CCB sought seven days of police custody for the accused from the Egmore court to interrogate him further.
‘Aide claimed proximity with Stalin family’
The complainant has explicitly requested in the FIR that action be taken against Sivasankar if evidence emerges during the investigation. Elanchezhiyan had reportedly told several victims that he enjoyed close connections with the DMK leadership, and that his mother was close to then chief minister MK Stalin’s family members.

Senior officials confirmed that the investigation is progressing swiftly and more arrests and seizures are expected.
Scam or conspiracy?
On his part, Sivasankar has categorically denied any connection with Elanchezhiyan in a social media post.
Political commentator Nandakumar sees a possible political conspiracy plot behind the whole issue. “Sivasankar has been sharply criticising the TVK government inside the Assembly. This action could also be a result of that. Targeting key political figures is nothing new in the political arena,” he told The Federal.

Criticism has also emerged that ever since the TVK government assumed power, former DMK ministers Sekar Babu, Senthil Balaji, and now Sivasankar are being systematically targeted and pressured.
