Youth killed after minister's personal car hits two-wheeler near Kattankulathur
Police register case under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the BNS, relating to rash and negligent driving on a public road and causing death by negligence
A 26-year-old man was killed in the early hours of Monday (September 7) after a car registered in the name of Tamil Nadu Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Minister K Jagadeshwari struck his two-wheeler at Kattankulathur in Chengalpattu district.
The deceased has been identified as Iraiyanbu, a resident of Chelliamman Kovil Street in Kattankulathur. Police said he was returning home on a Honda Dio after attending the Thulukkanathamman temple festival when the accident occurred near the Kattankulathur signal on GST Road, around 4.30 am. He was attempting to cross the road from west to east when the car hit him.
Minister’s personal car involved
Minister Jagadeshwari, the TVK MLA from Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district, was travelling to Chennai to attend the ongoing Assembly session after a visit to her constituency during the House recess. She was in an official government vehicle. An escort vehicle was also part of the movement. Following them was her personal Maruti Ertiga, bearing registration number TN 84 AZ 5941. Preliminary accounts state that this personal car, not the official vehicle, collided with the two-wheeler.

Driver arrested, car seized
On a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Sivakumar, the Maraimalai Nagar Traffic Investigation Wing registered a case under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to rash and negligent driving on a public road and causing death by negligence. The car has been seized.

Police have arrested the driver, Chinna Agni, 28, a native of Kodikulam in Madurai district. He is being questioned, and investigators are examining CCTV footage from the stretch to reconstruct the sequence of the collision.
Police said the inquiry would establish the circumstances of the accident, including speed, road-crossing conditions and the movement of the convoy at the junction. Further investigation is under way.
Earlier AIADMK era case
In the past, on May 27, 2014, during J Jayalalithaa’s tenure as chief minister, a personal car belonging to then Coimbatore Corporation mayor and AIADMK city district secretary CM Veluchamy struck a two-wheeler near Palladam in Tiruppur district, leaving mill worker Chandrasekar, 31, critically injured; he later died in hospital, and the vehicle was alleged to have left the scene without stopping.

When the party leadership sought an explanation, Veluchamy was said to have given a false account that he was attending a zonal meeting in Coimbatore; after the facts emerged, Jayalalithaa, as AIADMK general secretary and chief minister, immediately removed him from the city district secretary post, following which he also resigned as mayor.
