Gujarat ATS arrests health worker for ‘sharing sensitive info with Pak spy’

Sahdevsinh Gohil was reportedly in contact with agents of Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence and allegedly sold them information for money

A contractual health worker has been arrested by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) in the border district of Kutch for allegedly sharing and selling sensitive military information to a Pakistani spy, officials said on Saturday (May 24).

The accused, identified as 28-year-old Sahdevsinh Gohil, was reportedly in contact with agents and members of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and selling them sensitive information related to the Indian Armed Forces. He has been investigated and arrested by the ATS and booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS).

Gujarat ATS SP K Siddharth said Gohil, a resident of Lakhpat taluka of Kutch, was arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive information with a Pakistani agent. According to the ATS, they had received information suggesting that Gohil was passing on vital details relating to the Border Security force (BSF) and the Indian Armed Forces (IAF). He was taken in for preliminary questioning on May 1 while his phone was sent for a forensic analysis, said Siddharth.

Lured by Pakistani agent

SP Siddharth said Gohil was lured by a Pakistani agent identifying herself as Aditi Bharadwaj and he allegedly shared information about under-construction as well as existing establishments of the BSF and the Indian Navy in the region.

The Pakistani agent first contacted Gohil, who worked at a government centre in Mata No Madh village in Lakhpat through WhatsApp and befriended him. It has been discovered that since 2023, Gohil had shared photos and videos of various facilities in Kutch district to the suspected Pakistan agent via WhatsApp for money.

“After winning his trust, the agent sought photos and videos of BSF and Indian Navy offices and ongoing construction around his village. Gohil shared the requested classified information via WhatsApp,” said the SP, adding that Gohil knew she was a Pakistani spy.

Shared information for money

In January 2025, Gohil used his Aadhaar to procure a SIM card and shared the OTP with the Pakistani agent, enabling her to use WhatsApp linked to that number from the neighbouring country. All later communication and file transfer took place over that WhatsApp number.

The ATS also revealed that forensic analysis showed that both the numbers on which Gohil shared the information are currently being operated from Pakistan. He has also received Rs 40,000 from an unidentified person with a Pakistan number for transferring the files.

Others arrested on espionage charges

Notably, this comes after 11 people were arrested over three days on charges of spying for Pakistan in multiple states, as part of a nationwide crackdown on espionage activities following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

A prominent arrest was that of Jyoti Malhotra, a travel vlogger from Haryana, who was taken into custody for allegedly leaking sensitive information, and maintaining connections with Pakistani officers.
