Two arrested near PM Modi’s Mumbai event venue with fake PMO IDs, gun

Two people in possession of fake PMO ID cards, with one of them carrying a gun, have been arrested by Mumbai Police near the venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event scheduled to be held later in the evening on Tuesday (September 8).

According to an NDTV report, quoting sources, the two men were detained on Monday night (September 7) during a security drill at the venue.

Police said that a man was spotted moving around in a suspicious near the venue of PM Modi’s event, Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.

One claimed to be PMO official

Elaborating further, investigators said that the man and his purported bodyguard were arrested, adding that the latter was found to be carrying a gun.

Police said that one of the arrested men, identified as Rohan Parekh (24), claimed to be a PMO official, but upon investigation he was found to be carrying a fake identity card. Police are currently in the process of interrogating the two arrested to ascertain the motive behind their act. The other arrested has been identified as Dilip Raja Kunde (49), reported ANI.

According to investigators, the mobile phones and identity documents of the duo are being examined, and the next course of action will be determined depending on the investigation.

The incident resulted in a security alert ahead of PM Modi’s arrival at the venue to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026.

A case has been registered at the BKC Police Station against Rohan Parekh, who runs a drone technology business, and his purported bodyguard following their arrest near the venue, reported India Today.

Crime Branch takes over probe

The Crime Branch has now taken over the investigation into the matter. The probe will focus on why the two men allegedly attempted to enter the venue using a forged identity card and a weapon.

Investigators will also examine whether the incident had any connection with the Prime Minister’s visit to the area.

The development comes ahead of PM Modi’s scheduled visit to inaugurate the seventh edition of the Global Fintech Fest and address at the venue. The event is scheduled to continue until September 11. Later in the day, Parekh's lawyer told the court that his client himself has been misled into believing that he was genuinely working for the PMO. Parekh was remanded to police custody till September 11.
