Earlier arrest over espionage

The development comes within days after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a CRPF jawan for allegedly spying for Pakistan. The arrested, identified as Moti Ram Jat was allegedly engaged in espionage activities and was reportedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence officers since 2023.

Jat, who was an assistant sub-inspector with the CRPF, and was reportedly receiving funds from Pakistani intelligence officials, was found to have violated “established norms and protocols” of the CRPF after officials checked his social media activity.

The CRPF said in a statement that considering the serious nature of the case, it had been transferred to the NIA adding that the jawan had been dismissed from service with effect from May 21 “under the relevant provisions of the Constitution of India read with the CRPF Rules.”
