‘Letter via WhatsApp?’ : VCK leader slams Vijay over functioning style
VCK leader Sinthanai Selvan criticises Vijay and TVK’s post-poll strategy, alliance outreach, and warns of BJP influence in Tamil Nadu
In a sharply worded statement issued on Friday (May 8), Sinthanai Selvan, General Secretary of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), launched a blistering critique of TVK and Vijay’s handling of post-election developments. Selvan warned that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attempting to impose Governor’s rule in Tamil Nadu through the back door and urged the people of the state to stay alert.
Questions over leadership and strategy
He questioned whether Vijay is personally faltering in managing the “abnormal” post-poll situation or whether second-rung leaders around him are misleading him. “In a scenario where absolute majority is not available to form the government, TVK should have acted with extreme caution. Shouldn’t Mr Vijay have immediately met in person the leaders of parties whose support he seeks? Shouldn’t he have openly discussed that he is not under the control of second-level leaders and the urgent need to prevent the BJP from entering Tamil Nadu through the Governor’s route?” Selvan asked.

He criticised the party’s style of seeking support: “Sending a letter via WhatsApp asking for support and then saying ‘reply to it’ — how is one supposed to understand this?”
Alliance contradictions and political messaging
The VCK leader said TVK failed to show magnanimity after its electoral performance. “Right after the victory news, declaring that ‘the day of monarchy has ended’ and displaying a vengeful mindset — is this the right approach? Congress carries dynastic politics across five generations from Motilal Nehru to Rahul Gandhi. Isn’t it the height of irony to talk about dynastic politics while allying with Congress? After claiming to have ended DMK’s ‘monarchy’, what logic is there in shamelessly seeking support from the Left parties and VCK, which won as part of the DMK-led alliance?”

Selvan alleged that a section of TVK’s second-rung leaders is misusing Vijay’s charisma and heroic image, keeping him sidelined while settling personal scores against the DMK.
Charge of arrogance
“Boasting that DMK and AIADMK leaders will be arrested the moment they come to power — isn’t this the peak of arrogance?” he asked. He also condemned reported remarks by TVK functionaries about VCK: “Claiming that only 20 people in VCK are with Thirumavalavan and that the rest are ‘our people’ and ‘sleeper cells’ — what kind of political ethics is this?”

Selvan further noted that Vijay, who should be keeping his MLAs united through political understanding and personal affection, has instead revived “resort politics” by confining legislators — a move he described as “not commendable”.
Call for course correction
He concluded by urging Vijay to act swiftly: “Mr Vijay should immediately realise that the wrong approach and misguided counsel of those around him are blocking the support that should be coming his way.”
“In this critical situation where the BJP is trying to impose Governor’s rule by violating all democratic norms, the real challenge before the people of Tamil Nadu is to recognise this danger and protect the state,” Selvan said.
