Watch: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s emotional moment receiving India jersey
India versus Ireland two-match T20I series starts on Friday (June 26). If Sooryavanshi makes his debut, then he will break Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record to become the youngest ever male cricketer to represent India
It was a memorable moment for batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on Tuesday (June 23) as he received Team India jersey ahead of the T20I series against Ireland.
The 15-year-old Sooryavanshi, who made headlines with his breathtaking batting display in IPL 2026 and won several awards in the tournament, is set to make his India T20I debut.
BCCI’s video
On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on its X (Formerly Twitter) where Sooryavanshi received his Senior Team India jersey.

In the 48-second video, Team India’s throwdown specialist Raghu knocks on Sooryavanshi’s hotel room door to hand over the box containing the jersey.
The left-hander batter, who smashed a 29-ball 94, including a record 11-ball fifty in the final on Sunday to guide India A to tri-series title against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla, shared his emotions after getting his India blue jersey.
What Sooryavanshi said
“Words cannot explain it. The reason I picked up a bat from day one and went to the cricket ground for practice, today that dream was fulfilled. The biggest step towards that journey was completed today. I truly cannot put this feeling into words. I felt like a dream,” Sooryavanshi said.
“The moment I saw that T-shirt, I couldn’t stop smiling. Sometimes, something happens that you never even imagined could happen. And when it finally does, you don’t know how to react. That was exactly how I felt,” he added.
Sooryavanshi will wear No. 3 India jersey. This number was previously worn by off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and batter Suresh Raina.
India vs Ireland starts Friday
India versus Ireland two-match T20I series starts on Friday (June 26). If Sooryavanshi makes his debut, then he will break Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record to become the youngest ever male cricketer to represent India.
Tendulkar made his India debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days in 1989 against Pakistan in a Test. In women’s cricket, Shafali Verma is the youngest to play for India, in a T20I against South Africa, in 2019.
