NDA poised for Bihar win; Giriraj Singh says Bengal is “next target”
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) appears set to retain power in Bihar, crossing the majority mark of 122 seats out of the 243 constituencies.
As the trend became clear, Union Minister Giriraj Singh declared that the alliance’s “next target” would be West Bengal. Calling the outcome a mandate for “peace, justice, and development,” Singh said Bihar had rejected “chaos, corruption, or loot,” adding that voters had witnessed instability during Tejashwi Yadav’s brief stint in government, reported NDTV.
The opposition Mahagathbandhan, led by the RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, is ahead in 78 seats. Poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj, dismissed by many as a non-starter, is leading in two. Exit polls had largely predicted an NDA victory, with an aggregate of nine surveys estimating 147 seats for the ruling alliance and around 90 for the grand alliance. The results will also decide whether Nitish Kumar secures a fifth consecutive term as chief minister.
