
NDA wave sweeps Bihar; Opposition in tatters
By winning 183 seats, NDA secures a three-fourths majority; India Bloc bites the dust, with just 32 seats
The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Friday (November 14) secured a three-fourth majority in the Bihar Assembly, winning 183 seats in the 243-member House so far, as per latest results available on the Election Commission website. The BJP emerged as the largest party, winning 83 seats and leading in six other constituencies.
Its ally, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led JD(U), won 75 seats and was ahead in 10, while Union minister Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) bagged 17 and was ahead in two other seats. Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), headed by former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, won five seats, while Upendra Kushwaha-led Rashtriya Lok Morcha won three seats and was leading in one.
Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, and state ministers Prem Kumar, Maheshwar Hazari and Sanjay Saraogi and BJP's Maithili Thakur were among prominent winners from the NDA camp.
India Bloc bites the dust
The INDIA Bloc managed to win only 32 seats so far. The RJD bagged 23 seats and was leading in two other constituencies, while the Congress won six seats, the CPI(ML) Liberation two seats and the CPI(M) one. RJD leader and INDIA bloc's CM face Tejashwi Yadav, the late Mohammad Shahabuddin's son Osama Shahab and CPI(ML) Liberation's Sandeep Saurav were among prominent winners from the opposition camp.
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM won five seats.

Rajasthan: Counting for Anta bypoll begins, postal ballots taken up first
Counting of votes for the Anta Assembly bypoll in Rajasthan's Baran district began on Friday morning.
The counting is being conducted at the seminar hall of Government PG College in Baran, where 14 tables have been set up.
Officials said the counting will be held in 20 rounds.
The postal ballots are being counted first, followed by votes cast via the electronic voting machines.
The result is expected by Friday afternoon.
A total of 15 candidates are in the fray.
The BJP has fielded Morpal Suman, while the Congress fielded former minister Pramod Jain Bhaya. Independent candidate Naresh Meena has made it a triangular fight.
The constituency recorded a voter turnout of 80.21 per cent during the polling held on November 11.

Punjab: Counting of votes for Tarn Taran bypoll begins
Counting of votes for the Tarn Taran assembly bypoll in Punjab began at 8 am on Friday.
Polling for the seat was held on Tuesday, which saw a voter turnout of 60.95 per cent.
The Tarn Taran assembly seat fell vacant after the death of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June.
Tight security arrangements have been made at a counting centre set up at the International College of Nursing in Piddi.
The counting will be completed in 16 rounds, officials said.
AAP fielded Harmeet Singh Sandhu, a three-time MLA from Tarn Taran, who joined the party in July. Sandhu was elected as an Independent in 2002 and as a Shiromani Akali Dal candidate in 2007 and 2012. He lost the seat in 2017 and 2022.
The Congress has fielded its Tarn Taran district unit chief Karanbir Singh Burj, an agriculturist and real estate businessman.
The BJP's candidate is its Tarn Taran district president Harjit Singh Sandhu.
The Shiromani Akali Dal's nominee is Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, who is a retired government school principal and wife of a 'Dharmi Fauji' -- a term used for Sikh soldiers who deserted the Army after Operation Blue Star in 1984.
Independent candidate Mandeep Singh, brother of Sandeep Singh alias Sunny, an accused in the 2022 murder of Shiv Sena (Taksali) leader Sudhir Suri, was also in the fray.

Vote counting begins for Nuapada assembly bypoll in Odisha
The counting of votes for the Nuapada assembly bypoll in Odisha began at 8 am on Friday under a three-tier security arrangement, an official said.
District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Nuapada Collector Madhusudan Dash said the counting of postal ballots was underway.
The counting of votes in EVMs will start from 8.30 am at 14 tables.
There will be 26 rounds of vote counting, he said.
The bypoll was necessitated by the demise of BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8.
The Nuapada by-election has achieved an outstanding voter turnout of 83.45 per cent, which was the highest among the eight bypolls held in India on November 11.
As many as 14 candidates are in the fray.
