Israel-Iran conflict LIVE | Trump says Iran and Israel have 'agreed to total ceasfire'
Trump's announcement comes after Iran launched missile attacks on US bases in Qatar and Iraq
Breaking News: US President Donald Trump has dramatically declared a "complete and total" ceasefire between Israel and Iran, making the announcement on social media.
According to Trump, the ceasefire is set to commence "in approximately six hours from now," allowing both nations time to "wind down" their military operations.
As of now, neither Israel nor Iran has confirmed Trump's ceasefire announcement.
Iran attacks US bases in Qatar
Trump's announcement comes after Iran launched missile attacks late Monday night on US military bases in Qatar and Iraq, retaliating for the American bombing of its nuclear sites and escalating tensions in the volatile region.
Qatar condemned the attack on Al Udeid Air Base attack, but said it successfully intercepted the missiles and no casualties were reported. It said its airspace was now safe. Explosions were heard across the capital city of Doha and surrounding areas following the attack.
Qatar is home to the biggest US military base in the Middle East, Al Udeid Air Base. About 8,000 US citizens live there.
Iran said the attack in Qatar matched the number of bombs dropped by the United States on its nuclear sites this weekend, signalling its likely desire to de-escalate. Iran also said it targeted the base because it was outside of populated areas.
Iran announced the attack on state television as martial music played. A caption on screen called it “a mighty and successful response" to "America's aggression.” The Ain al-Assad base housing US troops in western Iraq was also targeted, an Iraqi security official who was not authorised to comment publicly told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
It wasn't immediately clear if there was damage to the Iraq base or any injuries.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry said the attack by Iran's Revolutionary Guards was “a flagrant violation of Qatar's sovereignty, its airspace, and international law.” Al Udeid is also home to the Combined Air Operations Center, which provides command and control of air power across the region as well as the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, the largest expeditionary wing in the world.
The retaliation came a day after the US launched a surprise attack Sunday morning on three of Iran's nuclear sites.

Russia says it is willing to help Iran: Reports
Russia is ready to help Iran in various ways, depending on what Tehran requests, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reportedly said on Monday.
“Everything depends on what Iran needs,” Peskov said in response to a question at a briefing.
According to an AP report, Peskov added that Russia has openly declared its stance on the Iran-Israel war, calling it an important form of support for Tehran.
He also noted that Iran has been a recurring subject in recent talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump, the news agency reported.

Iran launches missiles, drones at Israel in wake of US strikes on its nuclear targets
Iran fired a salvo of missiles and drones on Monday at Israel while also warning the United States that its military has been given a “free hand” to attack American targets in the wake of the Trump administration's massive strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
With the strikes on Sunday on Iranian nuclear sites, the United States inserted itself into Israel's war, prompting fears of a wider regional conflict. Iran said the US had crossed “a very big red line” with its risky gambit to strike the three sites with missiles and 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs.
Israel said its defence systems were operating to intercept the latest Iranian threat, which apparently targeted the north and central areas of the country, and told people to head to shelters. Iran described the attack a new wave of its Operation “True Promise 3,” saying it was targeting the Israeli cities of Haifa and Tel Aviv, according to Iranian state television.
Explosions were also heard in Jerusalem. There were no immediate reports of damage.
In Iran, witnesses reported Israeli airstrikes hit areas around Iran's capital, Tehran, mid-day. It wasn't immediately clear what had been targeted.

India's basmati rice shipments to Iran stuck at ports amid the conflict
Around 1,00,000 tonnes of basmati rice destined for Iran are stranded at Indian ports due to the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, the All India Rice Exporters Association said on Monday.
Association president Satish Goyal said around 1,00,000 tonnes of basmati rice meant for Iran is currently stuck at Indian ports, with Iran accounting for 18-20 per cent of India's total basmati rice exports.
Iran is India's second-largest basmati rice market after Saudi Arabia. India exported around 1 million tonnes of the aromatic grain to Iran during the 2024-25 fiscal year, which ended in March.
India exported approximately 6 million tonnes of basmati rice during 2024-25, with demand primarily driven by the Middle East and West Asian markets. Other major buyers include Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
