Israel-Iran conflict LIVE | Trump says Iran and Israel have 'agreed to total ceasfire'
Trump's announcement comes after Iran launched missile attacks on US bases in Qatar and Iraq
Breaking News: US President Donald Trump has dramatically declared a "complete and total" ceasefire between Israel and Iran, making the announcement on social media.
According to Trump, the ceasefire is set to commence "in approximately six hours from now," allowing both nations time to "wind down" their military operations.
As of now, neither Israel nor Iran has confirmed Trump's ceasefire announcement.
Iran attacks US bases in Qatar
Trump's announcement comes after Iran launched missile attacks late Monday night on US military bases in Qatar and Iraq, retaliating for the American bombing of its nuclear sites and escalating tensions in the volatile region.
Qatar condemned the attack on Al Udeid Air Base attack, but said it successfully intercepted the missiles and no casualties were reported. It said its airspace was now safe. Explosions were heard across the capital city of Doha and surrounding areas following the attack.
Qatar is home to the biggest US military base in the Middle East, Al Udeid Air Base. About 8,000 US citizens live there.
Iran said the attack in Qatar matched the number of bombs dropped by the United States on its nuclear sites this weekend, signalling its likely desire to de-escalate. Iran also said it targeted the base because it was outside of populated areas.
Iran announced the attack on state television as martial music played. A caption on screen called it “a mighty and successful response" to "America's aggression.” The Ain al-Assad base housing US troops in western Iraq was also targeted, an Iraqi security official who was not authorised to comment publicly told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
It wasn't immediately clear if there was damage to the Iraq base or any injuries.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry said the attack by Iran's Revolutionary Guards was “a flagrant violation of Qatar's sovereignty, its airspace, and international law.” Al Udeid is also home to the Combined Air Operations Center, which provides command and control of air power across the region as well as the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, the largest expeditionary wing in the world.
The retaliation came a day after the US launched a surprise attack Sunday morning on three of Iran's nuclear sites.

Sri Lanka calls for diplomacy to diffuse escalating Israel-Iran conflict
Sri Lanka on Monday called for diplomacy to diffuse the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict following the US involvement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release said, “Sri Lanka is gravely concerned about the latest developments in the Middle East. We continue to call upon all parties to take concrete steps to de-escalate the situation.” “All concerned parties should return to dialogue and engage in intense diplomatic efforts to establish and maintain peace to ensure stability in the Middle East region,” it added.

Sirens sounded in Jordan, central Israel
Israel's military said there was a barrage of missiles from Iran heading to Israel later Monday morning.
Iran launched an additional barrage, the Israeli military later said.
Sirens were sounded in Jordan and central Israel.
Meanwhile, Iranian Gen Abdolrahim Mousavi, the chief of joint staff of armed forces, warned the US on Monday that its strikes gave a "free hand" to Iranian armed forces to “act against US interests and its army.” Mousavi stressed Iran would not hesitate to do so after the US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday.
He described the American attack as violating Iran's sovereignty, entering the Israeli war on the country and being tantamount to invading the country.
The state-run IRNA news agency reported Mousavi's remarks.

UK's Lammy says US not going after Iran's civilian leadership
Britain's foreign minister says he is confident the US is not seeking to overthrow Iran's government despite a social media post from President Donald Trump suggesting it might be a good idea.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy said Monday that “it's clear from Israel and the United States that they're not going after the civilian leadership” in Tehran. He said “that's not what's under consideration at this time.” Lammy said he spoke to Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday, and the UK is pushing to “get the Iranians back to serious diplomacy.” Lammy told the BBC he has “not seen an assessment yet” of whether the strikes “seriously degraded Iran's ability to come up with a nuclear programme.” He added that “ultimately this has to be dealt with by diplomacy.”

Iran's judiciary says it executed another alleged Mossad spy
Iran on Monday (June 23) hanged a third man accused of being a spy of Israel's Mossad intelligence service since the Iran-Israel conflict.
Activists fear more people will be executed in Iran, particularly after its theocracy issued a Sunday deadline for people to turn themselves in over spying.
The judiciary's Mizan news agency identified the executed man as Mohammad Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh. Amnesty International previously had raised his case, saying he was held in Ghezal Hesar prison in Iran's Alborz province.
On Sunday, Iran hanged another man, Majid Mossayebi, whose case only became public after his execution.On June 16, Iran hanged Esmail Fekri.

Crude oil futures gain on spot demand
Crude oil prices on Monday (June 23) rose Rs 110 to Rs 6,514 per barrel in futures trade as participants increased their positions following a firm spot demand.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for July delivery traded higher by Rs 110, or 1.72 per cent, at Rs 6,514 per barrel in 8,416 lots.
Analysts said raising of bets by participants kept crude oil prices higher in futures trade.
Globally, West Texas Intermediate crude was trading 1.65 per cent higher at USD 75.06 per barrel while Brent crude rose 1.24 per cent to USD 78.25 per barrel in New York.

Israeli drone downed in Iran
The Israeli military said one of its drones was downed during an operation on Monday morning in Iran.
The military also said 15 fighter jets struck missile launchers and storage sites in western Iran, close to the border with Iraq.

US warns citizens of 'elevated threat environment' in the country after strikes on Iran
Amid rising tensions with Iran, the US has issued a new advisory for citizens warning of an "elevated threat environment" within the country. The notice, issued by US department of Homeland security (DHS), comes a day after US military struck three key nuclear sites in Iran.
The alert said the ongoing hostilities with Iran could inspire cyberattacks, retaliatory violence, and homegrown extremist activity. DHS says that the current conflict, coupled with Iran's historic grievances and longstanding threats against US targets, has significantly increased the risk of both cyber and physical attacks on American soil.
US officials also warn that violent extremists or individuals inspired by Iran’s rhetoric could independently mobilize and launch attacks domestically. The risk of such violence would increase substantially if Iran’s Supreme Leader were to issue a fatwa (religious ruling) calling for retaliatory action against Us targets, the bulletin said.
"If Iranian leadership were to issue a religious ruling calling for retaliatory violence against specific targets in the Homeland, it could increase the likelihood that a supporter of the Iranian regime is inspired to commit an act of violence in the Homeland," the advisory said.
