Israel-Iran conflict LIVE | Trump says Iran and Israel have 'agreed to total ceasfire'

Trump's announcement comes after Iran launched missile attacks on US bases in Qatar and Iraq

Breaking News: US President Donald Trump has dramatically declared a "complete and total" ceasefire between Israel and Iran, making the announcement on social media.

According to Trump, the ceasefire is set to commence "in approximately six hours from now," allowing both nations time to "wind down" their military operations.

As of now, neither Israel nor Iran has confirmed Trump's ceasefire announcement.

Iran attacks US bases in Qatar

Trump's announcement comes after Iran launched missile attacks late Monday night on US military bases in Qatar and Iraq, retaliating for the American bombing of its nuclear sites and escalating tensions in the volatile region.

Qatar condemned the attack on Al Udeid Air Base attack, but said it successfully intercepted the missiles and no casualties were reported. It said its airspace was now safe. Explosions were heard across the capital city of Doha and surrounding areas following the attack.

Qatar is home to the biggest US military base in the Middle East, Al Udeid Air Base. About 8,000 US citizens live there.

Iran said the attack in Qatar matched the number of bombs dropped by the United States on its nuclear sites this weekend, signalling its likely desire to de-escalate. Iran also said it targeted the base because it was outside of populated areas.

Iran announced the attack on state television as martial music played. A caption on screen called it “a mighty and successful response" to "America's aggression.” The Ain al-Assad base housing US troops in western Iraq was also targeted, an Iraqi security official who was not authorised to comment publicly told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

It wasn't immediately clear if there was damage to the Iraq base or any injuries.

Qatar's Foreign Ministry said the attack by Iran's Revolutionary Guards was “a flagrant violation of Qatar's sovereignty, its airspace, and international law.” Al Udeid is also home to the Combined Air Operations Center, which provides command and control of air power across the region as well as the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, the largest expeditionary wing in the world.

The retaliation came a day after the US launched a surprise attack Sunday morning on three of Iran's nuclear sites.

Pak politicians ask govt to review Trump's nomination for Nobel Peace Prize

Several Pakistani politicians and notable figures have asked the government to reconsider its decision to recommend President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize after the US bombed Iran’s three nuclear sites. The government, in a surprise move on Friday, announced that it would nominate Trump for the prestigious award due to his peacemaking efforts during the recent India-Pakistan conflict.

A letter of recommendation, signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, has already been sent to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee in Norway. But the decision came under scrutiny after the US bombed Iran’s Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz nuclear sites, joining Israel to dent Tehran's nuclear programme.

The Dawn newspaper reported that some leading politicians demanded the government review its decision in light of the latest development. Veteran politician Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who heads the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F), demanded that the government rescind its decision.

US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites mark perilous turn in Middle East: UN chief

The US bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities marks a “perilous turn” in the Middle East, UN chief Antonio Guterres told an emergency session of the Security Council at United Nations, amid escalating tensions in the region.

The 15-nation Council met for the emergency session on Sunday after President Donald Trump announced that the US had bombed three nuclear sites in Iran - Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.

“The bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities by the United States marks a perilous turn in a region that is already reeling. From the outset of the crisis, I have repeatedly condemned any military escalation in the Middle East,” Secretary General Guterres told the UN Security Council.

Guterres said the people of the region cannot endure another cycle of destruction. “And yet, we now risk descending into a rathole of retaliation after retaliation. The UN Chief stressed that the international community must act immediately and decisively to halt the fighting and return to serious, sustained negotiations on the Iranian nuclear programme.

Guterres said that Iran must fully respect the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which is a cornerstone of international peace and security.

Russia accuses US of gambling with safety, well being of humanity

Russia's UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the US airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities that “the US has opened a Pandora's box” and “no one knows what new catastrophes and suffering it will bring.” He said Russia offered its mediation to the US to find a peaceful and mutually agreeable solution to Iran's nuclear programme, but the United States, especially its leaders, are “clearly not interested in diplomacy today”.

“Unless we stop the escalation,” Nebenzia warned, “the Middle East will find itself on the verge of a large scale conflict with unpredictable consequences for the entire international security system, plus the entire world might end up on the verge of a nuclear disaster.”
