Operation Sindoor LIVE I Pak violates ceasefire hours after announcement

Trump claimed to have mediated the truce

Within two and a half hours of India and Pakistan agreeing to a “full and immediate ceasefire” of armed escalation, beginning 17.00 hrs on May 10 (Saturday), several sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir have reported massive artillery shelling and drone intrusions.

A blackout has also been imposed across Jammu district, which saw the first ceasefire violations occur around 7.30 PM in the Akhnoor and RS Pura sectors. Soon after, locals from Arnia and Pargwal also reported “heavy artillery fire” by Pakistan while drones were seen zipping across the skies of Jammu city. By 7.30 PM, similar reports of ceasefire violations by Pakistan began coming from Anantnag, Budgam, Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley too.

Ceasefire announcement

Earlier in the evening Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has announced that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan have agreed to stop all firings and military action on land, air, and sea from 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The foreign secretary's brief announcement came shortly after US President Donald Trump said India and Pakistan had agreed to a "full and immediate" ceasefire after US-mediated talks.

The DGMO of Pakistan called the DGMO of India at 3.35 pm earlier this afternoon, Misri said.

"It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, and in the air and sea, with effect from 5 pm on Saturday," he said.

Border districts in Gujarat asked to keep evacuation plan ready

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday directed officials in the districts near the Pakistan border to keep village evacuation plans ready and ensure that essential items are available.

Amid the India-Pakistan military conflict, Patel held a video conference with the collectors of Kutch, Banaskantha, Patan and Jamnagar to take stock of the situation and asked them to apprise the government if they needed essential commodities, medicines and fuel.

"Reviewed security measures undertaken by the administration in the border districts of Gujarat, from the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar," the CM posted on X earlier in the day.

"Obtained detailed information about the steps being taken by the administration in coordination with central agencies for the citizen safety-related matters such as the availability of essential commodities, transportation, and communication systems. Gave necessary directives to ensure the administration's preparedness to deal with any adverse situation," he further said.

An official statement said Patel also asked the district collectors to ensure that satellite phones, wireless systems, walkie-talkies and other equipment are available so that the communication network is maintained and people can receive timely information.

The districts administrations were asked to make their village evacuation plans more comprehensive so that people residing in villages close to the Pakistan border can be relocated to safe places if necessary, it said.

In the video conference, CM Patel said safe places should be made ready for relocation and vehicles should be arranged in advance.

If roads are damaged during a critical situation, they should be made motorable at the earliest, the CM directed. Road construction teams should be ready for the task, he said.

Secretaries in charge of these districts have been sent to the respective district to guide the local administration, said the official release.

Principal Secretary of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs R C Meena said at the meeting that his department was monitoring the prices of 38 essential items to keep them under control.

There is sufficient stock of items such as wheat, rice, pulses, onion and potato in the state, and officials are in contact with oil firms to ensure there is no shortage of petrol and diesel, the secretary said.

Principal Secretary, Health, Dhananjay Dwivedi said doctors and other medical staff from other districts have been deployed in the border areas with additional ambulances stationed in Bhuj, Jamnagar, Patan and Banaskantha.

Large-scale blood donation camps are also being organised to ensure that blood is easily available, he said.

Delhi govt ramps up emergency preparedness, cross signs put on hospital rooftops

Amid the intensifying military conflict with Pakistan, the Delhi government has directed all government hospitals and health facilities to ramp up emergency preparedness, including painting a Red Cross sign on hospital rooftops to signify medical facilities from the air.

The instructions, issued in the wake of learnings from the recent Operation Abhyaas mock drill, mandate urgent steps to ensure uninterrupted patient care and readiness for any emergency.

According to a government official, hospitals have been instructed to conduct a fresh mock drill on emergency preparedness.

Additionally, they must ensure adequate stockpiling of essential medicines and consumables, maintain operational generator sets with sufficient fuel backup, and confirm the full functionality of emergency services such as ICUs, oxygen supply systems, and ventilators.

The hospitals have also been directed to cancel leaves of key specialists such as surgeons, orthopaedicians, and burn care experts to ensure round-the-clock availability of trauma care.

Further, facilities must update ICU bed and equipment data on the designated ICU portal, ensure cyber-security of hospital websites, and maintain ample food supplies to keep canteens and mess services running without disruption.

Hospital heads have been told to personally monitor preparedness measures and ensure seamless coordination with district magistrates and chief district medical officers (CDMOs).

The government has also instructed healthcare facilities to prepare a spreadsheet online that can be circulated for real-time inputs, and all written and WhatsApp directives are to be treated with top priority and complied with at the earliest.

The government emphasised that each hospital's disaster management plan should be thoroughly in place, including the availability of fire extinguishers and other critical infrastructure for handling emergency scenarios.

Any additional action plans, as deemed necessary by the Medical Superintendent or Medical Director, are also to be implemented without delay.

Blast in village in Punjab's Gurudaspur

A massive crater was formed in an agricultural field on Saturday following an "explosion" in village Rajubela Chhichhran in Punjab's Gurdaspur district, amid security forces thwarting attacks by Pakistani drones, long-range weapons and other munitions along the Western front.

In a similar incident, an unidentified object fell in a field between Khalyan and Sahni villages in Phagwara district early Saturday, leaving a crater.

No one was injured in the incidents.

Debris of unidentified projectiles was found in Beas in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Pathankot and Dubli village in Tarn Taran districts.

Authorities have asked people not to touch any part of any unidentified projectile lying on ground and to inform local police about it.

After villagers informed police, army authorities were called in to examine the debris. Police cordoned off the sites where the metal parts of unidentified objects were found early Saturday morning.

In Gurdaspur's village Rajubela Chhichhran, residents said a crater -- around 35 feet wide and 15 feet deep -- was formed following a loud blast in the early hours of Saturday.

"A big explosion took place at around 4:50 am. As a result, window panes of nearby houses were shattered," said a villager.

A police official said no one was hurt in the incident. However, there was damage to electrical wires in the incident.

After learning about the crater in the field, many curious villagers, including youngsters, reached the site and started clicking pictures on their mobile phones.

In Phagwara, an unidentified object fell in a field between Khalyan and Sahni villages in Phagwara district early Saturday, officials said.

Locals said an explosion-like sound was heard at 2.40 am from the fields of Major Singh at Khalyan village towards Sahni.

The impact of the unidentified object created a crater about 7-8 feet deep and 12-14 feet wide in the field, the officials said.

Some parts of the unidentified object were found lying scattered in the field.

Some wheat straw also caught fire after the projectile fell, which was put out by firemen, locals said.

No loss of life was reported in the incident.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Akshita Gupta said an advisory has been issued to keep all marketplaces, barring medical stores, closed in Phagwara city on Saturday.

Malls and high-rise commercial buildings in the rest of the district will also remain closed, officials said.

India will consider any future terror act as act of war: Govt sources

Any future act of terror in India will be considered an "act of war" against the country and will be responded to accordingly, top government sources said on Saturday.

With this decision, the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks to draw red lines against terror incidents and makes clear its intention to firmly respond to the perpetrators and conspirators, in what is seen as a message to Pakistan -- a country linked to various terrorist groups involved in targeting Indians.

The decision comes amid an intensifying conflict with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which had left 26 civilians, mostly tourists, dead.

Pak Army spokesperson's father a UN sanctioned nuclear scientist with al-Qaeda links

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the spokesperson for the Pakistan Army, has a dark past with a shadow of terrorism looming large.

He is the son of a nuclear scientist who was sanctioned by the United Nations and the US for providing crucial information and technical expertise to the terror group al-Qaeda, Indian officials have disclosed.

Lt Gen Chaudhry, a three-star general, has been briefing the press in his capacity as the chief of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) since India conducted intelligence-based strikes at nine terror camps, including the headquarters of the Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, to avenge the fatal attack on 26 people, mainly tourists, in Pahalgam on April 22.

As per the United Nations documents, Chaudhry's father, Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood, was known to have met the late al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Born in Amritsar, Mahmood allegedly provided insights into the infrastructure necessary for a nuclear weapons programme as well as the effects associated with nuclear weapons.

He was also accused of raising funds for a fundamentalist organisation, Ummah Tameer-e-Nau, founded in 1999 to support humanitarian causes in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan before the US invasion in 2001.

Mahmood, who retired from the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, has authored several books on the intersection of religion and science, including "Mechanics of the Doomsday and Life after Death", in which he reflects on the ultimate fate of the universe from an Islamic perspective.

Currently 85, Mahmood lives in Islamabad.

He was arrested in 2001 after reportedly admitting to meeting Osama bin Laden, but was later released when authorities concluded that he lacked the technical knowledge to transfer nuclear secrets.

His name also figures in the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) and Blocked Persons list of the US Treasury department.

Lt Gen Chaudhry was appointed as the Director General of ISPR by Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir in December 2022.
