Operation Sindoor LIVE | Blood and water can't flow together: Modi tells Pakistan

In a televised address to the nation, PM Modi said India has only temporarily halted its counter-terrorism operations against Pakistan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Monday (May 12) that India has temporarily halted its counter-terrorism operations against Pakistan but warned that New Delhi is prepared to respond decisively to any threats.

In a televised address to the nation, Modi said, "In the coming days, we will observe Pakistan's behaviour and decide our actions on the basis of that."

The Prime Minister saluted India’s Armed Forces for its bravery. He also said Pakistan's 'nuke blackmail' won't work with India anymore.

'Not the era of terror'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday asserted that this is not an era of war but not of terrorism either.

The PM said on Monday that for India to uphold peace, it must be strong, and when necessary, that strength must be exercised.

"This is not an era of war, but it is not an era of terrorism either. Unity is India's greatest strength in the fight against all forms of terrorism. Zero Tolerance against terrorism is the guarantee of a better and safer world," he said.

Modi asserted that Pakistan's military and government have continuously nurtured terrorism, warning that such actions will eventually lead to Pakistan's own downfall.

He declared that if Pakistan seeks survival, it must dismantle its terror infrastructure—there is no other path to peace.

'Terror and talks can't co-exist'

He reaffirmed India's firm stance, stating that terror and talks cannot coexist, terror and trade cannot run parallel, and blood and water cannot flow together.

"Any discussions with Pakistan will focus solely on terrorism and any negotiations with Pakistan will centre around Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)," he said.

Residents of border villages start returning home

As guns fall silent on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) following the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, residents of villages close to the international border with Pakistan, who were forced to leave their homes due to heavy shelling from across the LoC, have started returning home to on Monday.

The villagers have started to return home after bomb disposal squads cleared the residential areas of any leftover or unexploded shells, officials said.

"We are happy that a ceasefire has been reached between the two countries. We are also hopeful that Pakistan will not resort to such activities again," said Arshad Ahmad, a resident of the Kamalkote area in Uri.

Some residents praised the army and other security forces for taking care of them.

"The Indian Army has come out with flying colours. It had to respond and it did that well. They (army personnel) are our heroes, they always help us. Even now, when we are going back to Uri, they checked the place thoroughly (for shells)," said Mehak Khursheed, a resident of Uri near the Line of Control (LoC).

However, Uri MLA Sajjad Shafi urged the villages along the frontline to remain vigilant and not touch anything suspicious.

The development comes a day after authorities in Jammu and Kashmir asked the residents of border villages not to rush back as residential areas were yet to be sanitised and cleared of any unexplored shells.

More than 1.25 lakh residents of villages close to the LoC in Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara districts were evacuated to safety as their homes were at a very high risk of being targeted in Pakistani shelling.

Kerala BJP slams Rahul for demanding special Parliament session on Operation Sindoor

The BJP in Kerala on Monday criticised the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi for demanding a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and related developments.

The saffron party leadership questioned why Rahul Gandhi was making such a demand, alleging that he is often absent from Parliament when it is in session.

"Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are the ones who skip Parliament when the House is in session and disappear when important legislation is being passed," BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said in a statement.

He also remarked that it is up to the Union government to decide whether a special session of Parliament is necessary in connection with the India-Pakistan conflict.

Chandrasekhar said India has dealt Pakistan the most severe blow since independence in recent days.

"The precise retaliatory strikes and the successful thwarting of Pakistan's counter-attacks have showcased the strength of our defence sector, built over the past 10 years," he added.

He emphasised that while India has never desired or initiated conflict, it will deliver a fitting response to any aggression.

Chandrasekhar’s comments followed letters written by opposition leaders in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding an immediate special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and recent developments in cross-border firing.
