You gave away PoK, we will get it back: Shah's dig at Congress

Opposition MPs walk out over PM Modi's absence in the Rajya Sabha

Union Home Minister Amit Shah's address in the Rajya Sabha is currently underway. Taking a dig at the Congress, Shah declared, "You gave away Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, and it's our duty to take it back."

Shah also provided an update on recent security operations, stating, "The identity of three terrorists killed in Op Mahadev established Lashkar-e-Taiba’s hand in the Pahalgam attack."

Reads out PM's speech

He read out the Prime Minister's speech delivered on April 24, 2025, and said that following the PM’s guidance, not only were terrorists eliminated but their launch pad was also destroyed. He said that the government decided to end the one-sided Indus Water Treaty as Indian farmers have their rights on the Indus water.

Shah said that at least 100 people were killed and the headquarters of terror outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen were destroyed by the Modi government.

“I proudly declare to the world... Hindus can never be terrorists,” he said, questioning the Congress Party for filing false cases against many "patriotic religious institutions".

“The Congress never took any concrete steps for the preparation of the Indian Army. During the war with China, we didn’t even have proper clothes to wear in the cold... there was neither salt nor matchsticks, and we had a severe shortage of guns and cartridges.” Shah said, under the leadership of Modiji, the Army is equipped with modern weapons like the BrahMos missile.

Earlier, when Shah began to speak, Opposition parties protested and demanded that the Prime Minister should be present in the House. However, when the Chair refused to entertain their demand, they staged a walkout.

MP Abhishek Banerjee: 'India is being controlled by US President Trump'

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee questioned the Narendra Modi government over Pahalgam terror attack.

He alleged that India, under Prime Minister Modi, is being controlled by US President Donald Trump, referring to claims by Trump that he stopped the India-Pakistan war during Operation Sindoor.

"Who is responsible for Pahalgam (terror attack)? You insult Bengal and say that the Bengal government makes Bangladeshis infiltrate. Who is responsible for the borders in Jammu and Kashmir? Who are the Jammu and Kashmir police controlled by? How did four terrorists enter? They boast a lot. They are claiming that people infiltrated through the Bangladesh border, who is responsible for that? Who allowed them to enter? Why would the American President decide when India would stop the war or start the war? Narendra Modi used to say that there was a remote-controlled government before 2014. They used to say that Manmohan Singh was controlled by a remote from 10 Janpath. At least the remote was in Delhi, now the remote is in America… India is being controlled by the American president...," Banerjee said.

Govt must compensate for 'sudden deaths': SP MP Rajbhar

Raising concern over the rising number of 'sudden deaths' among people across age groups, Samajwadi Party MP Ramashankar Rajbhar on Wednesday called on the Centre to establish a mechanism to document such fatalities and compensate the affected families.

Speaking during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Salempur MP Rajbhar alleged that several people in his parliamentary constituency, ranging from children to the elderly, had died abruptly.

"A cricketer hit a six and collapsed; a man dancing at his nephew’s wedding died on the spot. A schoolgirl fainted and died. A driver suffered a heart attack while driving and died. Whether it is brain haemorrhage or cardiac arrest -- these sudden deaths are happening without warning," he said.

Rajbhar stressed that such cases were not isolated and cut across demographics. "In my parliamentary constituency alone, which includes five assembly segments, dozens have died suddenly like this. Children, women, young men, and the elderly," Rajbhar told the Lower House.

Criticising the absence of official documentation, he said, "There’s no post-mortem, no survey, and no official record of these sudden deaths. We cannot leave these families to fend for themselves in despair." He urged the central government to investigate the incidents and provide compensation. "The government must find a solution to this -- a way to monitor and address such sudden deaths. I demand that families of the deceased be given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh," Rajbhar said.

Why did you name it 'Operation Sindoor' when women lost their sindoor, asks Jaya Bachchan

Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Jaya Bachchan on Wednesday questioned why India's retaliatory action post-Pahalgam attack was named "Operation Sindoor", when women were widowed in the incident and actually "lost their sindoor".

Participating in a debate on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor in the Rajya Sabha, the SP MP was also seen objecting to interruptions from other MPs. The actor-turned politician, who is known for her sharp temper, was urged by the Chair not to pay attention to others.

Bachhan replied saying she has "sharp ears", and at one point, she was seen telling Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, who was sitting next to her, "don't control me".

Bachchan paid condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam attack.

"It feels strange because whatever happened looks like fiction, people came, killed so many, nothing happened. It's really unreal," she said.

"I talk from my heart... You have appointed bid writers, who give fancy names... Why did you name it Sindoor? Sindoor to ujad gaya logo ka (they lost their Sindoor)... Those who were killed, their wives were left behind," she said.

"The tourists who went there, why did they go there? After abolition of Article 370, they were chest thumping that terrorism will be finished... what happened? The tourists went there believing that," she said.

"You have destroyed the faith and trust of people you promised. Those families will never forgive you. You do not have the ability to apologise to those families," she said.

"Humility in power is very important," she said.

"The Defence Minister said we are self-reliant, we are manufacturing this and that, what is the point when you were not even able to save 25-26 people... Bombs will not help, basic humanity is required," she said.

"No dispute can be silenced by violence alone. I am sorry to say one department where you are very poor is humility," she said.

She also quoted Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien, and said, "Derek said a good thing -- the weaker the argument, the more aggressive the body language".

"Be humble, be kind, be protective towards people who have given you this position and authority with hope that you will protect them... Protect them, please say sorry," she said.

No timeframe for considering demands for inclusion of languages in 8th Schedule: Govt

No timeframe can be fixed for consideration of the demands for inclusion of more languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution since there are no fixed criteria at present, Rajya Sabha was informed Wednesday.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said the government is conscious of the sentiments and requirements for inclusion of other languages in the Eighth Schedule.

He said such requests have to be considered, keeping in mind these sentiments and the other relevant considerations.

"Since at present, there are no fixed criteria for any language to be considered for inclusion in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution, no time-frame can be fixed for consideration of the demands for inclusion of more languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution," he said.

The minister said there have been demands from time to time for the inclusion of several languages, including Bhojpuri and Rajasthani, in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution.

"However, there are no fixed criteria for consideration of any language for inclusion in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution.

"As the evolution of dialects and languages is a dynamic process, influenced by socio-cultural, economic and political developments, it is difficult to fix any criterion for languages for inclusion in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution," he said.

He said the earlier attempts, through the Pahwa (1996) and Sitakant Mohapatra (2003) Committees, to evolve such fixed criteria have been inconclusive.

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee accused the Election Commission (EC) of snatching the rights of real voters through Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar.

"What is happening in the country in the name of SIR in Bihar, the case is subjudice in SC, date is in August, we have faith in the judiciary, but what news is coming from Bihar is worrying, residential certificates are being issued on dog, tractor, they will vote? But they want to snatch the right of real voters.
