You gave away PoK, we will get it back: Shah's dig at Congress

Opposition MPs walk out over PM Modi's absence in the Rajya Sabha

Union Home Minister Amit Shah's address in the Rajya Sabha is currently underway. Taking a dig at the Congress, Shah declared, "You gave away Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, and it's our duty to take it back."

Shah also provided an update on recent security operations, stating, "The identity of three terrorists killed in Op Mahadev established Lashkar-e-Taiba’s hand in the Pahalgam attack."

Reads out PM's speech

He read out the Prime Minister's speech delivered on April 24, 2025, and said that following the PM’s guidance, not only were terrorists eliminated but their launch pad was also destroyed. He said that the government decided to end the one-sided Indus Water Treaty as Indian farmers have their rights on the Indus water.

Shah said that at least 100 people were killed and the headquarters of terror outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen were destroyed by the Modi government.

“I proudly declare to the world... Hindus can never be terrorists,” he said, questioning the Congress Party for filing false cases against many "patriotic religious institutions".

“The Congress never took any concrete steps for the preparation of the Indian Army. During the war with China, we didn’t even have proper clothes to wear in the cold... there was neither salt nor matchsticks, and we had a severe shortage of guns and cartridges.” Shah said, under the leadership of Modiji, the Army is equipped with modern weapons like the BrahMos missile.

Earlier, when Shah began to speak, Opposition parties protested and demanded that the Prime Minister should be present in the House. However, when the Chair refused to entertain their demand, they staged a walkout.

UP govt depriving Dalit, poor students of basic education, opening liqour shops: SP members in LS

Samajwadi Party (SP) members in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday accused the Uttar Pradesh government of depriving Dalits and poor children of the right to education by closing and merging state-run schools and instead focussing on opening liquor shops in every village.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, the Samajwadi Party's (SP) Dharmendra Yadav alleged there is autocracy in the state at a time when the entire country is celebrating 75th years of Independence. "Even though we have Right to Education law, in Uttar Pradesh 1.26 lakh schools are being closed down while 5,000 are getting merged. Recruitment of more than 2 lakh teachers too have been stalled," Yadav said.

While the children of Dalits, and poor families are being deprived of primary education because of the UP government's 'school pairing' policy, the state is seeing opening of more than 27,000 liquor shops. Neeraj Maurya (SP) lamented that government-run schools are in "grave state" in Uttar Pradesh and they are being closed down.

"When Akhilesh Yadav was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, students were being given laptops. Now the state is getting liquor shops," Maurya said.

He demanded from the government to ensure that state-run schools are not closed and instead Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalaya be opened.

Naresh Chandra Patel (SP) said while the state government on the one hand is saying that education is the fundamental right of every child, on the other hand it is implementing policies of merging schools for which students will have to travel longer distance of 2-3 km.

"Is this 'New India' where liqour shops are being opened in every village, whereas schools are being shifted away from village," Patel said.

The Uttar Pradesh government has been facing criticism over its move of pairing schools with fewer attendance, which some fear will lead to increased travel distances for young students.

The government's decision to pair schools aims at optimising resources and enhancing pre-primary education for children aged three to six years.

Nishikant Dubey accuses Rahul of 'distorting' facts of 1971 war, seeks Speaker's action

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Wednesday accused Rahul Gandhi of using "distorted and inaccurate facts" in the Lok Sabha during his reference to Indira Gandhi's conduct of the 1971 war against Pakistan, and urged Speaker Om Birla to reprimand the Leader of Opposition in the House for his "habitual delinquency".

In a letter to Birla, Dubey asked him to issue a "show cause" notice to Gandhi for his "questionable utterances", sources said, adding the BJP MP also sought the Speaker's permission to raise the issue in the House, according to a PTI report.

Rahul had said during the discussion on Operation Sindoor on Tuesday that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi has even 50 per cent of the courage that Indira Gandhi had shown during the war with Pakistan, then clearly he must say in Parliament that US President Donald Trump is lying in his claims that he mediated ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

He had said India Gandhi, his grandmother, had given complete operational freedom to the armed forces, while the Modi government had "tied their hands behind their back".

Hitting back, Dubey cited a letter, dated December 5, 1971, written by the then-prime minister to US President Richard Nixon, claiming that "she had literally begged before him to use his influence to stop the war with Pakistan." The BJP MP also annexed the letter in his submission to the Speaker.

He alleged that Rahul Gandhi has once again "unabashedly betrayed the public trust by twisting the well-documented historical facts", which has become his "habit" to glorify his family and declining party.

The Congress leader, Dubey said, suggested that Indira Gandhi gallantly fought the war despite diplomatic, political and various other strategic pressures from the United States, leading to the creation of Bangladesh.

PM Modi must reject Trump’s claims openly: Deepender Hooda

Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda says Prime Minister Narendra Modi must reject US President Donald Trump’s claims on intervening in the India-Pakistan conflict openly so that “India’s global image is not damaged”.

“... This is the 29th time that US President Trump has claimed that he had a role in the ceasefire. If Trump has said it on a global platform for 29 times that the ceasefire was in exchange for trade, then this is against India’s image,” he argued.

India must send strong message to US: RSP MP Premchandran

Revolutionary Socialist Party MP NK Premchandran pointed out that India had “diplomatically failed to globalise the [Pahalgam attack] and achieve a unanimous opinion condemning Pakistan”.

“...From day one, we have been saying that it is an undisputed fact that TRF is behind this terrorist attack and it is supported by Pakistan.... But except for Israel, none of the countries supported India’s position and condemned Pakistan’s role... None of the nations, including Russia, supported and condemned Pakistan for promoting terrorism and the Pahalgam attack.”

He added that India needs to send a very strong message to the US, “otherwise it will become very difficult for us to survive in the coming days...”

“During [US President Donald Trump’s] second term, it is very strange that he is using tariff as a weapon... On one hand, the prime minister says that Donald Trump is a good friend, but unfortunately, we are not getting anything positive from the good friend... India should stand and speak strongly, and a good message has to be given to the US...”
