Nehru-Congress-bashing again and again; Modi concludes his 100-minute speech

No country stopped India from acting in its defence, PM Modi stressed, replying to Rahul's remarks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Tuesday (July 29) that no world leader had told India to stop Operation Sindoor as he lashed out at the Congress for “importing issues from Pakistan” and said the Opposition party is joining terrorists and their masterminds in shedding tears after the victorious Indian military action.

Replying to an over 16-hour discussion in Lok Sabha on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, Modi rebutted the Opposition’s charge over US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of mediating “ceasefire”, saying he had told US Vice President J D Vance on May 9 night that Pakistan will pay dearly for any attack on India.

In his 102-minute speech, the prime minister lauded India’s military action as a “vijayotsav” (victory celebration) and told the House amid cheers from the treasury benches that he was presenting the “stand of Bharat”.

“India destroyed Pakistan’s military strength between May 9 and May 10. Pakistan now clearly understands that India’s response will always get bigger and that India can do anything if it engages in any misadventure in future,” he said, emphasising that Operation Sindoor is continuing.

What transpired that day

Modi said Vance called him up a few times but he was busy in meetings with the armed forces brass and returned the call later. “The Vice President told me that Pakistan is going to launch a big attack. I told him if this is Pakistan’s intention, then this will cost it dearly. We will respond with a bigger attack. We will fire cannonballs against their bullets.” “No world leader asked India to stop its military operation,” he said.

India has made it clear that it will respond to terror on its terms, won't tolerate nuclear blackmail and will treat terror sponsors and masterminds alike, he said.

On Trump's claim

No country stopped India from acting in its defence, PM Modi stressed, adding that only three of the 193 UN members spoke in favour of Pakistan, remarks which came soon after Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi claimed no country condemned Pakistan and cited Trump’s claims to question Modi’s leadership.

Modi then turned on the Congress. The Opposition party has fallen to such a low that despite governing India for so long, it does not trust the country’s establishment and its trust is in fact guided by remote control in Pakistan, he said. Modi kept raking up Congress and Jawaharlal Nehru and blamed the party and India's first Prime Minister for many of India's ''follies''.

Raja says BJP should learn from Vajpayee, points to contradictory government narrative

DMK MP A Raja said the BJP refuses to learn anything from the Dravidian movement. “At least learn from Vajpayee. After the Kargil War, he appointed a commission of inquiry. But after Operation Sindoor, you are avoiding Parliament. You don’t want to face any questions,” he said.

Pointing to contradictions within the government’s own narrative, he added, “In one report, one minister says the ceasefire is ‘on pause,’ while the Defence Minister says it’s ‘over because the objective was achieved.’ What is going on?”

Nehru didn’t hide anything, but today even regret is missing: A Raja

DMK MP A Raja said, “When India suffered a setback from China in 1962, Prime Minister Nehru did not hide anything. He responded to every letter. He withheld nothing. But today, after the Pahalgam attack, has anyone — from the Prime Minister to your [BJP] MPs — even expressed regret?” Raja asked.

“Yesterday, the Defence Minister said, ‘Why worry about broken pencils if the exam has been passed?’ I’m sorry to say, this is childish. We are not concerned about pencils — we are raising questions about malpractice in the exam,” he added.

Referring to the External Affairs Minister's speech, Raja questioned, “The minister said so much, but can you tell us why not a single country — not the G2, G7, or even the Quad — stood with us? He said the US Vice President, JD Vance, called our Prime Minister on May 9 to warn of a massive attack from Pakistan. What is this? Are you not ashamed?

Asking why did the US Vice President have to alert Modi? What were your agencies — RAW and IB — doing? And then the External Affairs Minister comes and reveals this in Parliament? Raja says he feels shame.

Raja asked why the US Vice President had to call Prime Minister Modi to warn him of an impending Pak attack, questioning what India’s agencies — RAW and IB — were doing. He said it was shameful that the External Affairs Minister revealed this in Parliament, adding that he felt ashamed.

"You must admit your administrative incompetence. You are simply incapable. The people have lost faith in you,” Raja asserted.

Kharge: Foreign policy failing India's strategic interests

“After Pahalgam, the truth has come out. Foreign policy can’t just be based on event management. There should be a specific foreign policy, and we all have to act on it. Sir, despite major events like ‘Howdi Modi’ and ‘Namaste Trump’, India’s strategic interests have not been safeguarded. Despite such deep friendship, nobody stood by you. Not a single country, including the US, did not criticise Pakistan in unequivocal terms. No country criticised Pakistan for supporting terrorism. This shows that at a moment of crisis, there is nobody to support you,” says Kharge.

Kharge questions PM on ceasefire terms and US involvement

“Most of our questions are for the Prime Minister. What happened to Modi ji? So much discussion is going on. My first question is under which conditions the ceasefire was agreed upon, and even though Pakistan was on the back foot, why did you accept it? Second, did the United States interfere in this? If yes, then under whose instructions and under which condition? Third, as claimed by the US President multiple times, did he play a role in the ceasefire? If yes, then was it not against India’s policy of no third-party mediation? Fourth, did the ceasefire take place under trade threat from the US?” says Kharge.

If Home Minister is responsible for terror attacks, then he should resign: Kharge

Kharge says that if the Union Home Minister is responsible for repeated terror attacks in India, then she should resign.

“If the Lieutenant had admitted that it (Pahalgam attack) was a security failure, when will accountability be fixed? Did he make the statement to save the Union Home Minister, or was he told by the Home Minister to say such things?” added Kharge.
