Nehru-Congress-bashing again and again; Modi concludes his 100-minute speech

No country stopped India from acting in its defence, PM Modi stressed, replying to Rahul's remarks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Tuesday (July 29) that no world leader had told India to stop Operation Sindoor as he lashed out at the Congress for “importing issues from Pakistan” and said the Opposition party is joining terrorists and their masterminds in shedding tears after the victorious Indian military action.

Replying to an over 16-hour discussion in Lok Sabha on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, Modi rebutted the Opposition’s charge over US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of mediating “ceasefire”, saying he had told US Vice President J D Vance on May 9 night that Pakistan will pay dearly for any attack on India.

In his 102-minute speech, the prime minister lauded India’s military action as a “vijayotsav” (victory celebration) and told the House amid cheers from the treasury benches that he was presenting the “stand of Bharat”.

“India destroyed Pakistan’s military strength between May 9 and May 10. Pakistan now clearly understands that India’s response will always get bigger and that India can do anything if it engages in any misadventure in future,” he said, emphasising that Operation Sindoor is continuing.

What transpired that day

Modi said Vance called him up a few times but he was busy in meetings with the armed forces brass and returned the call later. “The Vice President told me that Pakistan is going to launch a big attack. I told him if this is Pakistan’s intention, then this will cost it dearly. We will respond with a bigger attack. We will fire cannonballs against their bullets.” “No world leader asked India to stop its military operation,” he said.

India has made it clear that it will respond to terror on its terms, won't tolerate nuclear blackmail and will treat terror sponsors and masterminds alike, he said.

On Trump's claim

No country stopped India from acting in its defence, PM Modi stressed, adding that only three of the 193 UN members spoke in favour of Pakistan, remarks which came soon after Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi claimed no country condemned Pakistan and cited Trump’s claims to question Modi’s leadership.

Modi then turned on the Congress. The Opposition party has fallen to such a low that despite governing India for so long, it does not trust the country’s establishment and its trust is in fact guided by remote control in Pakistan, he said. Modi kept raking up Congress and Jawaharlal Nehru and blamed the party and India's first Prime Minister for many of India's ''follies''.

It's Rahul's turn to speak in the LS

I start with Pahalgam, a brutal, heartless attack organised and orchestrated by Pakistan. Even before Operation Sindoor began, we (the Opposition) told the government that we would stand like a rock with the government. This was agreed upon by all the senior leadership of the India Alliance, and we are proud that, as an Opposition, we stood united as we should have.

Govt prioritised ‘normalcy’ narrative in J-K over national security: Dimple Yadav

Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav said the Pahalgam terror attack is proof that the government placed its narrative of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir above national interest and security.

She added that not just Baisaran Valley, but at least 60 tourist spots in Jammu and Kashmir lacked any security presence at the time.

“This government encouraged people to visit Kashmir — then why did it fail to ensure their security?” she asked.

Further questioning the government’s accountability, Yadav posed a pointed question, “Would anyone in this government or Parliament send their own family to Kashmir without making proper security arrangements?”

KC Venugopal questions US role in ceasefire, says clear external influence

Referring to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s statement, Congress MP KC Venugopal said, “Yesterday, the minister said Trump and Modi didn’t speak for two months. Fine. But he also said that US Vice President JD Vance spoke to Modi. Would Vance speak to Modi without the US President’s knowledge?”

Raising doubts about third-party involvement, Venugopal asked, “If the ceasefire didn’t happen due to US interference, then why didn’t India set the terms for it?”

He further alleged that there was clear external influence in the process, “There is clear third-party interference in the ceasefire. The US Secretary of State announced that Pakistan is a key partner in counterterrorism. What kind of diplomacy is this?”

Amit Shah lied in Parliament, ignored security failures: KC Venugopal

Congress MP KC Venugopal criticised Home Minister Amit Shah for evading responsibility on the Pahalgam terror attack, stating that while Opposition MPs raised concerns about a security failure, Shah “spoke about everything else except that.”

Recalling a personal experience, Venugopal said, “Just days before the Pahalgam attack, I was in Gulmarg for a Public Accounts Committee meeting. I wanted to visit a DCC leader's house barely 2 km away, but I was denied permission. Security officials told me, ‘Anytime, anything can happen here.’ Yet in Pahalgam, where was the security? Where was the intelligence? Who failed?”

Calling the Home Minister's speech “a complete lie,” Venugopal added, “Amit Shah says everything is fine in this country, but Manipur has been burning — and we’re not even allowed to talk about it. Since 2014, 28 terror attacks have taken place, and yet he continues to claim all is well. Pahalgam was not an isolated incident. Why were adequate security measures not in place?”

He further said the motive of the attackers in Pahalgam was clear.

“They asked people their religion, their names. Their goal was to create divisions in the country. They were doing it from a foreign country, but you — the BJP — are creating the same divisions from within, through politics of hate and polarisation,” he said.

Engineer Rashid slams govt, says Kashmiris are being suppressed

Baramulla MP Engineer Abdul Rashid Sheikh called the Pahalgam attack a “murder of humanity,” stating, “No one can understand the pain of those families better than us — the people of Kashmir — who have lived through bloodshed for decades.”

He questioned the security lapse in strong terms,“I want to ask: who failed in Pahalgam? What was the Lieutenant Governor doing? What were your agencies doing?”

Continuing his emotional appeal, Rashid said, “Has anyone here expressed any concern for Kashmiris? Why are you suppressing us? What is Kashmir to you — just a piece of land? Why are you killing our people? Do whatever you want with Pakistan — that’s between you and them. But why are you oppressing Kashmiris? We are stuck between India and Pakistan.”

Criticising the Centre's outreach, he added, “You sent 50 MPs abroad to present India’s case. I want to ask — how many of them were from Kashmir? Not even one.”
