Parliament debate: Jaishankar denies Trump’s claim of direct talks with Modi

There was overwhelming support for India globally, including from members of Quad, BRICS, Central Asian countries, who upheld India's right to respond, says EAM

India's military action against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack marked a "new normal" in combatting cross-border terrorism with a five-point approach that included a firm response to terror acts, not yielding to nuclear blackmail and that blood and water cannot flow together, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in the Lok Sabha on Monday (July 28).

After a week of logjam, the Monsoon Session of Parliament saw a fiery debate on the Pahalgam attack and the Centre’s Operation Sindoor today. Both Houses were repeatedly adjourned amid opposition protests on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, delaying the start of the discussion on Operation Sindoor.

Earlier today, there were fiery speeches by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and DMK MP Kanimozhi are among those set to speak in Parliament tomorrow.

Govt nod to marathon debate

After the first week of session ended up a virtual washout due to opposition protests on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and other issues, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on July 25 that the Opposition had agreed to the start of a discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha on Monday and in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

All goals achieved in Operation Sindoor: Rajnath

Rajnath Singh said that India's all goals were achieved in Operation Sindoor.

"If we are in government today, it is not as if we will be here indefinitely. We have been in Opposition in the past, too and we always served as a constructive Opposition. We asked tough questions when needed. In 1962, we asked the government why there was a loss of Indian territory (to China), why our jawans lost their lives. We did not ask how many tanks or jets we lost. We did not ask how many equipment we lost.

"In any exam, the result matters not whether during the exam the student broke his pencil. Ultimately, it is the result that matters and the result of Op Sindoor is that whatever goals we had set out to achieve, our Armed Forces have achieved," Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in Lok Sabha.

We did not suffer any damages in Operation Sindoor: Rajnath

Rajnath Singh said that India did not suffer any damages in Operation Sindoor and slammed the Opposition for asking about how many jets of the country were lost.

He added that the operation avenged the "sindoor" of those women who lost their husbands in Pahalgam terror attack.

"The Opposition is asking us how many jets we lost, but it is not asking how many jets of the enemy we have downed. If the Opposition wants to ask a question, it should ask whether Operation Sindoor was a success. The answer is yes. The Opposition should ask if Operation Sindoor avenged the Sindoor of those women who lost their husbands in Pahalgam. The answer is yes. If the Opposition asks whether we suffered any damages, the answer is no," Rajnath said in Lok Sabha.

Pakistan conceded defeat after we hit their air bases: Rajnath Singh

Highlights from Rajnath Singh's statement on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha

The entire world saw the image of India's bravery when we hit Pakistani air bases in Chaklala, Sargodha, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur.

The aim of the Operation (Sindoor) was to target and destroy terror camps and demonstrate our zero tolerance to terrorism. We stopped the operation because all our objectives had been met. It is absolutely wrong to say that this operation was stopped under any influence.

Capturing territory was not an objective of the operation.

Overall politico-military objective was to dismantle terror, not start a war.

Pakistan conceded defeat after we hit their air bases on May 10 and pleaded with our DGMO to stop the hostilities.

We accepted, but with the condition that the operation has only been paused, not stopped. We made it clear that if Pakistan indulges in any misadventures in the future, the Operation will resume.

Pakistan's defeat was not an ordinary one. It was a defeat in military and morale.

We faced no losses in Operation Sindoor: Rajnath Singh

Here are highlights from Rajnath Singh's statement in Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor

The Armed Forces also gathered evidence of destruction caused (at terror sites) during the operation despite the dark of night.

The Indian DGMO informed his Pakistani counterpart the following morning of the rationale behind the attack and the fact that only terror hubs were hit by us. Despite this, Pakistan violated ceasefire and escalated the situation by launching strikes at our military installations, all of which were neutralised.

Our response was swift and balanced. Our action was not provocative but in self-defence.

Our air defence systems, counter drone systems and electronic equipment repelled all attacks from Pakistan. We faced no losses.
