Rahul: 'EC colluded with BJP for Haryana poll win'

The Congress leader cites electoral list data to claim that 25 lakh entries were fake

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (November 5) cited electoral list data from Haryana to claim that 25 lakh entries were "fake" and the assembly polls last year were "stolen", as he accused the Election Commission (EC) of colluding with the BJP to make them win.

'EC colluded with BJP for Haryana win'

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said he is questioning the EC and the democratic process in the country and therefore, is doing so with 100 per cent proof.

Rahul alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the two election commissioners colluded with the BJP to ensure its victory in Haryana and claimed that "they are in partnership" with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

'Operation Sarkar Chori' was launched to convert the landslide Congress victory into loss in Haryana, the former party president alleged.

He also alleged that CEC Gyanesh Kumar is "lying" to the people of India when he stated that house number zero is given to homeless people and that is the reality of zero number houses.

Addressing a press conference at the Indira Bhawan in Delhi, Rahul cited the electoral list of Haryana to claim that 25,41,144 were fake voters with multiple examples of duplicate voters, invalid addresses and bulk voters.

Claims unfounded: EC official

In its defence, the EC called Rahul’s claims unfounded, stating that no appeals were filed against the electoral rolls in Haryana,

"Why were no claims and objections raised by INC's BLAs during revision to avoid multiple names?" an EC source said on Wednesday.

Booth-level agents, or BLAs, are appointed by political parties to oversee voting and flag irregularities, if any.

'Rahul Gandhi exposed BJP's vote theft in Haryana', says Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday said the "proof" unveiled by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over "vote theft" in Haryana is shocking and claimed that the BJP stands exposed by stealing the people's democratic verdict.

Once again, a big suspicion arises over the veracity of the BJP's recent election victories, and the clinching evidence released by Rahul over vote theft in Haryana is shocking, the Chief Minister said.

"A situation where people are no longer prepared to believe the divisive politics of the BJP, which came to power in 2014 by inciting hatred and making false promises, happened long ago. Therefore, surpassing all electoral malpractices, they have now taken their atrocity to the electoral rolls itself, stealing the people's democratic verdict, and the BJP stands exposed today," Stalin said in a post on 'X.'

"The next phase of such stealing is the conspiracy to snatch people's voting rights under the guise of #SIR, and Bihar and the #HaryanaFiles released today are proof! It is anguishing that the Election Commission, which is responsible for all such matters, despite numerous allegations and heaps of evidence, has not provided any proper explanation," he added.

Haryana Minister hits back at Rahul Gandhi’s rigging allegations

Haryana Minister Arvind Sharma has dismissed allegations made by Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi regarding alleged “vote rigging” in the Haryana elections, calling them a reflection of Gandhi’s “frustration out in the open.”

Speaking to reporters, Sharma credited the Bharatiya Janata Party’s performance to a decade of governance since 2014. “The BJP government that came to power in Haryana after 2014, the victory of those 10 years of work is 2024’s,” he said, describing it as “a victory of transparency.”

Highlighting the state’s progress under BJP rule, Sharma asserted, “Development happened in Haryana, corruption ended... All these things are the reason for our victory.” He termed Gandhi’s accusations as “completely baseless statements,” suggesting they were politically motivated ahead of polling in Bihar.

“There is voting in Bihar tomorrow,” Sharma noted, adding that the Congress was attempting to “create such a smokescreen” to divert attention. However, he expressed confidence in voters, saying, “The people of Bihar will not be misled. There, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, an NDA government will be formed.”

The minister’s remarks come amid a heated political exchange following Gandhi’s claims of electoral malpractice in Haryana, as both parties gear up for the next phase of voting.

Rijiju dismisses Rahul's vote theft claim, cites cadre strength

The Union Minister Kiren Rijiju dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s allegation of vote theft, pointing instead to his party’s confidence in victory. Referring to the state leadership, he recalled: “Our Haryana Chief Minister said one line: ‘We will win the elections. We have a good system.’” He went on to clarify: “What does system mean? Our cadre, our workers, our leaders’ dedication, our workers’ sacrifice. This is our system, this is our strength. This is why we confidently say we will win.”

Rijiju also addressed the opposition’s stance: “The public is happy that the voter list should be purified. The only problem is with Rahul Gandhi.” He claimed that “many within the Congress party are also unhappy. Many in Bihar are saying that Rahul Gandhi should not come to campaign there because his presence would ruin whatever little chances they have.”

Regarding post-poll procedures, he said: “After the voting is over, if there’s any discrepancy, you can file a petition or appeal with the Election Commission. If you feel that justice was not served, you can go to court. They don’t have to do all this… They will just hold a press conference, and someone will make a presentation and then run away. Will democracy work like this?”
