Operation Sindoor LIVE I Pak violates ceasefire hours after announcement

Trump claimed to have mediated the truce

Within two and a half hours of India and Pakistan agreeing to a “full and immediate ceasefire” of armed escalation, beginning 17.00 hrs on May 10 (Saturday), several sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir have reported massive artillery shelling and drone intrusions.

A blackout has also been imposed across Jammu district, which saw the first ceasefire violations occur around 7.30 PM in the Akhnoor and RS Pura sectors. Soon after, locals from Arnia and Pargwal also reported “heavy artillery fire” by Pakistan while drones were seen zipping across the skies of Jammu city. By 7.30 PM, similar reports of ceasefire violations by Pakistan began coming from Anantnag, Budgam, Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley too.

Ceasefire announcement

Earlier in the evening Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has announced that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan have agreed to stop all firings and military action on land, air, and sea from 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The foreign secretary's brief announcement came shortly after US President Donald Trump said India and Pakistan had agreed to a "full and immediate" ceasefire after US-mediated talks.

The DGMO of Pakistan called the DGMO of India at 3.35 pm earlier this afternoon, Misri said.

"It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, and in the air and sea, with effect from 5 pm on Saturday," he said.

Congress slams BJP over "petty politics" on UPA govt's approach to terror

The Congress slammed the BJP on Saturday for accusing the previous UPA government of acting with "passivity" in responding to terror attacks and said the ruling party and the government must clarify whether it is time to play politics instead of giving a message of unity.

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor slammed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for putting out a social media post criticising the previous UPA government and said the "petty attempt to divide us politically is deplorable".

The opposition party's criticism came after the BJP hit out at the UPA government's approach in dealing with Pakistan.

"The message to the enemies is loud and clear. Don't mess with us! Unlike the UPA regime's passivity, New India has no patience for futile peace talks," the BJP said in a post on X and shared a video montage to claim that while talks followed terror attacks during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule, this has changed under the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Tagging the post on the microblogging platform, Congress's media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said, "So do we have to do politics now? Is it time to do politics? Doesn't the government need the support of the opposition? "Do we not have to give a message of unity now? The government and BJP should clarify," Khera said in his post in Hindi.

Tagging the BJP's post on X, Tharoor said, "At a time when the nation stands united as Indians, this petty attempt to divide us politically is deplorable. Our government has learned the futility of past approaches the hard way -- after inviting Pakistan to participate in the investigation of the Pathankot blasts in 2016. It is only then that it took to the path of military action, carefully calibrated and maturely conducted. This advertisement is neither appropriate nor mature. Delete it, please, @BJP4India. Jai Hind."

J-K mourns the demise of people-friendly officer in Pak shelling

Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer Raj Kumar Thapa, who lost his life in Pakistani shelling early Saturday, was known for his unwavering professional devotion and people-friendly approach, leaving many in the union territory mourning.

Thapa, 54, was widely respected for his unwavering professional devotion and approachable nature, a quality that deeply resonated with the people he served.

An MBBS graduate, he joined JKAS in 2001.

Thapa lost his life when a Pakistani artillery shell struck his residential quarters in the bordering district of Rajouri. He is survived by his wife, a doctor, and their two children.

The officer was posted as the Additional District Development Commissioner, Rajouri, in March last year and played a key role in handling the situation at Badhaal village where 17 members of three families, including 13 children, died under mysterious circumstances after falling sick between December 7 and January 19.

Before his tenure in Rajouri, Thapa served as an officer on special duty (OSD) to former deputy chief minister Tara Chand from 2009 to 2014, besides holding significant roles, including mission director of the J-K Skill Development Mission and special secretary in the Labour and Employment Department.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the bereaved family at Roopnagar and was seen hugging his father, Durga Dass, to condole his son's death.

"Paid my heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr Raj Kumar Thapa, JKAS, ADDC Rajouri, who lost his life in the line of duty today due to shelling by Pakistan. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. The government stands firmly with his family in this hour of grief," Abdullah said in a post on X.

J-K CM announces ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for kin of Pak shelling victims

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in Pakistani shelling in the Union Territory.

An additional district development commissioner and 19 villagers were killed in Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu and Baramulla sectors in the past four days after Indian armed forces struck nine terrorist infrastructure targets across the border on May 7 in retaliation to last month’s Pahalgam terror attack.

While 12 civilians were killed in Poonch on Wednesday, two others were killed in Uri and Poonch on Friday. Another five civilians, including a senior government officer, lost their lives in Pakistani shelling Saturday morning.

"Deeply pained by the loss of innocent lives due to recent shelling from Pakistan. My Government is taking every possible measure to minimise the hardship of our people," the chief minister said in a post on X.

The post, shared by the office of the chief minister, said while no compensation can ever replace a loved one or heal the trauma caused to the family, as a gesture of support and solidarity, ex-gratia relief of Rs 10 lakh will be provided to families of all who have deceased.

"We stand with every affected family in this hour of grief," the chief minister said.

Bomb threat to Indore's Holkar stadium mentioning Operation Sindoor turns hoax

The Holkar Stadium in Indore received a bomb blast threat, with the unidentified sender of an e-mail warning of retaliation in response to Operation Sindoor, police said on Saturday.

The threat turned out to be a hoax.

"MPCA's (Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association) official email (ID) on Friday received a threatening message. The email, written in English, mentions that the stadium will be blasted due to 'Operation Sindoor' (of Indian armed forces)," Tukoganj police station in-charge Jitendra Singh Yadav told PTI.

After being alerted by MPCA, four teams of police personnel and a bomb squad thoroughly searched the stadium's premises for five hours.

"No suspicious thing was found in the Holkar stadium," Yadav said.

Police are trying to trace the origin of the hoax e-mail in collaboration with the cyber squad, and legal action will be taken.

Prima facie, the email seems a "copy-paste" job for mischief, although the police are investigating various aspects, an officer said.

The officer said that in the past months, fake emails threatening to bomb Indore airport, bank branches, hospitals, and schools have been received.

He said an accused has been arrested in one case.
