Trump claimed to have mediated the truce
Within two and a half hours of India and Pakistan agreeing to a “full and immediate ceasefire” of armed escalation, beginning 17.00 hrs on May 10 (Saturday), several sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir have reported massive artillery shelling and drone intrusions.
A blackout has also been imposed across Jammu district, which saw the first ceasefire violations occur around 7.30 PM in the Akhnoor and RS Pura sectors. Soon after, locals from Arnia and Pargwal also reported “heavy artillery fire” by Pakistan while drones were seen zipping across the skies of Jammu city. By 7.30 PM, similar reports of ceasefire violations by Pakistan began coming from Anantnag, Budgam, Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley too.
Ceasefire announcement
Earlier in the evening Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has announced that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan have agreed to stop all firings and military action on land, air, and sea from 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The foreign secretary's brief announcement came shortly after US President Donald Trump said India and Pakistan had agreed to a "full and immediate" ceasefire after US-mediated talks.
The DGMO of Pakistan called the DGMO of India at 3.35 pm earlier this afternoon, Misri said.
"It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, and in the air and sea, with effect from 5 pm on Saturday," he said.

Exercise restraint : China 'strongly' urges India, Pakistan
China on Saturday strongly urged India and Pakistan to exercise calm and restraint and return to the track of peaceful settlement amid reports of escalation of the military conflict between the two neighbours.
China is closely following the ongoing situation between India and Pakistan and is deeply concerned about the escalation, a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry said here.
“We strongly urge both sides to act in the larger interest of peace and stability, exercise calm and restraint, return to the track of political settlement through peaceful means, and refrain from any action that could further escalate tensions,” the statement issued by the spokesperson of the ministry said.
He was referring to a question about the reports of escalation of conflict between India and what it terms as ironclad ally, Pakistan.
“This will be important for the fundamental interest of both India and Pakistan, and for a stable and peaceful region. This is also what the international community hopes to see. China is willing to continue to play a constructive role to this end,” it said.
Since the Pahalgam terrorist attack, China, while condemning it, has called for restraint, besides a fair and swift investigation into the attack.

PM holds high-level meeting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting with the top defence establishment to take stock of the emerging security situation amid the intensifying military conflict with Pakistan.
Modi met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the three service chiefs and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan to review the security scenario and chalk out strategies for the future course of action, officials said.
The conflict with Pakistan has intensified with the armed forces responding proportionately and adequately to Pakistani attempts to target Indian installations.
Pakistan's military is moving its troops in the forward areas, India said on Saturday, as the two countries continued to attack each other's military facilities.
"The Pakistan military is observed to be moving their troops to the border areas," Colonel Sofiya Qureshi said at a press briefing along with Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri
