Parliament debate: Jaishankar denies Trump’s claim of direct talks with Modi
There was overwhelming support for India globally, including from members of Quad, BRICS, Central Asian countries, who upheld India's right to respond, says EAM
India's military action against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack marked a "new normal" in combatting cross-border terrorism with a five-point approach that included a firm response to terror acts, not yielding to nuclear blackmail and that blood and water cannot flow together, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in the Lok Sabha on Monday (July 28).
After a week of logjam, the Monsoon Session of Parliament saw a fiery debate on the Pahalgam attack and the Centre’s Operation Sindoor today. Both Houses were repeatedly adjourned amid opposition protests on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, delaying the start of the discussion on Operation Sindoor.
Earlier today, there were fiery speeches by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and DMK MP Kanimozhi are among those set to speak in Parliament tomorrow.
Govt nod to marathon debate
After the first week of session ended up a virtual washout due to opposition protests on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and other issues, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on July 25 that the Opposition had agreed to the start of a discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha on Monday and in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Praniti Shinde slams PM Modi, says Trump forced ceasefire on India
Congress MP Praniti Shinde says she is "speaking in embarrassment because the instructions to our Armed Forces for ceasefire did not come from the Indian PM but a foreign leader." She said, "What did India receive from Op Sindoor? A ceasefire forced upon it by America. PM wants us to celebrate. What should we celebrate? The downing of our jets? The moral setback our Forces got from a Trump enforced ceasefire? Their foreign policy has been reduced to going abroad and getting photographed with foreign dignitaries."

Tejasvi Surya calls PM Modi the “defender of India”
Surya said, "Opposition is raising questions in an irresponsible and shameful manner on the foreign policy of Narendra Modi. I want to tell them, Narendra Modi is the defender of the country while you all (Opposition) are the surrendering forces of India. Your history is of surrendering before foreign powers, to China and other adversaries. After the Parliament attack of 2001, Chidambaram had said he will give benefit of doubt to Afzal Guru."

Tejasvi Surya accuses Congress of weakening India’s military and anti-terror framework
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said, "Congress party changes its neta (leader) but not its neeti (policy); from 1947 till date every Congress leadership has consistently and deliberately weakened India's military and strategic interests. Nehru did not even want India to have an army, this has been their policy throughout...They wanted to derail the acquisition of Rafale and Tejas."
"Consistent policy of Congress towards terrorism has to be listed... they repealed POTA, when Rajiv Gandhi assassination trial was underway, the courts said there are no exclusive terror statutes; 10 years of UPA government saw more than 8000 civilians being killed in terror activity but they did nothing, they weakened the country from within by weakening the institutions, in Kashmir every Friday there was stone pelting and only after Amit Shah repealed Article 370 there was a decline in terror activities in J&K... After the 9/11 attacks, every country strengthened its anti-terror mechanism but only India under Congress in 2004 chose to weaken its anti-terror mechanisms."

Baijayant Panda takes dig at Congress for 'not allowing' Shashi Tharoor to speak
BJP leader Baijayant Jay Panda on Monday took a dig at the Congress, saying the party is not allowing its own member and noted orator Shashi Tharoor to speak in Lok Sabha.
Participating in a special discussion in the House on 'India's strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam', Panda alleged that the Congress governments on a number of occasions surrendered India's interests.
"There are several leaders in your (Congress) party who can speak well... My friend Shashi Tharoor Ji, who is a good speaker, is not allowed to speak by his party," he said, adding that Tharoor had earlier spoken in the interest of the country.
According to sources, the Congress asked its Thiruvananthapuram MP Tharoor if he was interested in speaking during the debate on Operation Sindoor in Parliament, but the latter declined.

Jaishankar slams Congress on Pakistan bailout, China ties
Jaishankar also dismisses criticism over India's inability to adequately protest or stall the IMF bailout to Pakistan in the midst of Operation Sindoor saying similar and bigger bailout were given to Pakistan during previous Congress governments and the Congress never objected.
Jaishankar slams Congress for raising alarm over China's growing influence. "I did not go to China for Olympics or secret agreements, I went for negotiations," Jaishankar says in a quip at Sonia Gandhi's presence at the Beijing Olympics and BJP's repeated claims of Rahul Gandhi entering into an MoU with China on behalf of the Congress during UPA era.
"We heard warnings about China today. When Doklam crisis was on the LoP of today decided to take a briefing not from us but from the Chinese Ambassador, " says Jaishankar in another jibe at Rahul. He adds that in 2006, the Congress came to a regional trading agreement with China and later allowed 3G and 4G to come from China.
Those claiming today to be custodians of national interests and giving warnings about China, need to look at their own track record, says Jaishankar.

Jaishankar rebuts Oppn, denies Trump claim, says India responded firmly to Pak post-Pahalgam
Jaishankar on "US activity" during Op Sindoor: JD Vance called Modi and warned of a massive attack from Pakistan to which PM Modi responded saying such an attack will be met with equal force. He adds that the response to Pakistan thereafter on May 8 and 9 was in accordance with Modi's response and that Modi had made it clear that any ceasefire negotiations will only happen if the Pakistani side calls directly with an offer.
Jaishankar denies Trump’s claims, saying there was no direct conversation between Trump and Modi throughout the Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor events. As the Opposition protests, Amit Shah stands up to say the Opposition is not willing to trust India’s Foreign Minister but is ready to trust people of foreign countries.
Jaishankar says those questioning the government on its response to Pahalgam are people who did nothing after 26/11, saying their only reaction then was "no action".
Jaishankar says Congress talking about hyphenation of India and Pakistan though it was was the UPA government that hyphenated the two countries through the Sharm-al-Sheikh statement which said both countries were victims of terror and also included a reference to Balochistan.
"People who did nothing have the temerity today to say why why didn't you do more, it is extraordinary," says Jaishankar. He mocks Rahul Gandhi saying the LoP missed history lessons in school because he doesn't realise that the current situation with Pakistan has its roots in the "creation of PoK" during Congress rule in the 1950s.
