Parliament debate: Jaishankar denies Trump’s claim of direct talks with Modi

There was overwhelming support for India globally, including from members of Quad, BRICS, Central Asian countries, who upheld India's right to respond, says EAM

India's military action against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack marked a "new normal" in combatting cross-border terrorism with a five-point approach that included a firm response to terror acts, not yielding to nuclear blackmail and that blood and water cannot flow together, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in the Lok Sabha on Monday (July 28).

After a week of logjam, the Monsoon Session of Parliament saw a fiery debate on the Pahalgam attack and the Centre’s Operation Sindoor today. Both Houses were repeatedly adjourned amid opposition protests on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, delaying the start of the discussion on Operation Sindoor.

Earlier today, there were fiery speeches by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and DMK MP Kanimozhi are among those set to speak in Parliament tomorrow.

Govt nod to marathon debate

After the first week of session ended up a virtual washout due to opposition protests on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and other issues, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on July 25 that the Opposition had agreed to the start of a discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha on Monday and in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Jaishankar: Global support backed India’s right to respond

Jaishankar asserts there was overwhelming support for India globally, including from members of Quad, BRICS, Central Asian countries, who all upheld India's right to response, condemned cross-border terrorism, and opposed giving safe haven to terrorists. Similar support and solidarity was extended by Putin, says Jaishankar.

He adds further that the extradition of Tahawwimur Rana from US to India was also a result of the current regime's diplomacy which resonated with the US and rest of the world.

India hit Bahawalpur, Muridke; no one imagined this after 26/11: Jaishankar

Union Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar informs House that its was "because of our diplomacy" that the US designated the TRF as a global terror outfit.

Jaishankar says between Pahalgam and Sindoor, he received 27 calls from various global leaders and the PM personally received over 20 calls expressing solidarity with India. "Overwhelmingly there was recognition that India was doing what was right," says Jaishankar.

The external affairs minister underscores that India's response was non-escalatory and only targeted terror infrastructure. Jaishankar asks the House, "which one of you had ever imagined that India will hit Bahawalpur or Muridke. People had given up hope after 26/11".

Jaishankar responded to questions on the purpose of India’s all-party delegations abroad by stating that each country was given a clear and consistent message: India is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, and dialogue with Pakistan cannot continue as long as terrorism persists.

'Some feel more strongly for Palestine than Pahalgam'

What LJP MP Shambhavi Chaudhary says

It is unfortunate that today this country has some people who feel more strongly for Palestine than they do for the attack in Pahalgam. It is also unfortunate that the Congress today keeps giving credit for the 1971 war to Indira Gandhi but does not even mention the defence minister of the time, Bihar's Babu Jagjivan Ram, only because he was a Dalit.

The Congress keeps talking about surrender these days but this is because it has a history of surrendering India's interests and pride for decades. Nehru surrendered India's territory to China and all their leaders after Nehru have followed the same surrender policy. The only PM who has protected India's interests and pride is Narendra Modi.

Hooda slams govt for ‘strategic blunder’ of alerting Pakistan Army during Op Sindoor

Congress MP Deepender Hooda counters Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's admission about the Indian DGMO "informing" his Pakistani counterpart about Operation Sindoor the morning after it was launched.

This was a strategic blunder. The defence minister, the BJP, the Opposition and everyone in this country knows that the Pakistani military establishment and Pakistani terrorist outfits work in a nexus. "Why then did you have to call and tell the Pakistani Army that we will not hit any Pakistani military establishment when you knew how the Pakistani Army will respond to Operation Sindoor," Hooda asks Singh.
