Parliament debate: Jaishankar denies Trump’s claim of direct talks with Modi

There was overwhelming support for India globally, including from members of Quad, BRICS, Central Asian countries, who upheld India's right to respond, says EAM

India's military action against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack marked a "new normal" in combatting cross-border terrorism with a five-point approach that included a firm response to terror acts, not yielding to nuclear blackmail and that blood and water cannot flow together, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in the Lok Sabha on Monday (July 28).

After a week of logjam, the Monsoon Session of Parliament saw a fiery debate on the Pahalgam attack and the Centre’s Operation Sindoor today. Both Houses were repeatedly adjourned amid opposition protests on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, delaying the start of the discussion on Operation Sindoor.

Earlier today, there were fiery speeches by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and DMK MP Kanimozhi are among those set to speak in Parliament tomorrow.

Govt nod to marathon debate

After the first week of session ended up a virtual washout due to opposition protests on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and other issues, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on July 25 that the Opposition had agreed to the start of a discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha on Monday and in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Credit for Op Sindoor goes to armed forces, not govt: Banerjee

Banerjee said the credit for Operation Sindoor goes entirely to Indian Armed Forces, not this government. "We have such an absolutely irresponsible Home Minister. What happened in Pahalgam? 26 people got gunned down. What was your police doing? What was your intelligence department doing? What was CRPF doing? The terrorists came, killed people, walked around and walked back to Pakistan. What did the home ministry do? What did your NSA do?"

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee speaking now

Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee speaking now. As decided by Trinamool, Banerjee and all other party MPs will speak in Bengali (or English) and not in Hindi during the ongoing session as a mark of dissent against Centre's alleged Hindi imposition and targeting of Bengali migrants in different parts of the country under the guise of a crackdown against illegal Bangladeshi migrants.

‘Is Trump the real Vishwaguru?’: Rajbhar slams govt over ceasefire

Rajbhar said, "The defence minister told us that over 100 terrorists were killed in Pakistan during Op Sindoor but what he did not tell us was whether those 100 included the 4-5 terrorists who killed our people in Pahalgam and if not, then why."

"On May 10 (the day ceasefire was announced), they (BJP) declared our PM was Vishwaguru. Those who thought our PM was Vishwaguru realised later that the real Vishwaguru is sitting in the White House. How many times has President Trump now said he negotiated the ceasefire? Why have you been silent? Trump invited Asim Munir for lunch. What did you (govt) do?"

'Why is no country standing with India?': Gogoi slams govt's diplomacy

"Why is the government not explaining why no country stood beside India? They are happy that a statement from Brazil mentions the attack in J&K but they are silent on why the IMF, in the middle of Operation Sindoor, give aid to Pakistan? You don't even have the power to convince one country to brand Pakistan as a terror state," he said.

"We urge the government, don't be scared. We were standing with the government against terrorism then and we will stand with you now but you have to tell us the truth."

‘Why didn’t we strike all targets? Did PM yield to Trump’s threat?’: Gogoi

Gogoi said, "CDS had to admit in Singapore that we suffered losses. He also said after Day 1 of the operation, India did only attacked Pakistan through long range missiles but did not breach Pakistan air space. Why was this? Why couldn't we go in (Pakistan territory) to strike? Even if one of our Rafales was downed, it is a matter of concern and the country should be told."

"An Indian defence attache has said India lost fighter jets because there was a restriction on targeting some (Pak) military infrastructure. Another officer said 21 targets were originally selected. I want to ask, why did we not hit all 21, why were there instructions to not hit certain Pakistan military targets?"

"Why is it that at 2 pm on May 10, the Indian Army says we will attack and then at 5 pm it says it will not attack. We have to ask the PM, who did it surrender to? The US President has said 26 times that he used threat of war to force ceasefire. Trump says 5 jets downed. PM should tell us did he bend to Trump's threat. Rajnath Singh should tell the country the truth about the jets. The country has the capacity to hear the truth, it needs to be told the truth," he added.

“Why wasn’t war the intention?”: Gogoi takes on Rajnath

"Rajnath Singh is talking about ghus ke marenge (will hit in your country); this was the same thing they said when Pulwama happened. Rajnath Singh says we dismantled terror infrastructure after Pulwama, Uri. Then how did the terrorists come in Baisaran?" said Gogoi

"Even today Rajnath Singh is saying Operation Sindoor has only paused and not stopped. He says if Pakistan attacks again, we will respond. On one hand, they say terror infrastructure has been dismantled and on the other hand, they say terror attack can happen again."

"Rajnath Singh says the government's intention was not to start a war. I ASK, WHY? WHY WAS WAR NOT OUR INTENTION?"

Home Minister can't hide behind J-K LG: Gogoi

Slamming the Modi-led NDA regime, Gogoi said, "The government told us that after Article 370 abrogation, it was safe to go to Kashmir but what happened in Baisaran? How did those terrorists come to Pahalgam if, as the home minister repeatedly says, the backs of terrorists have been broken? Who is going to take responsibility? Did the Home Minister have no information? You (Home minister) cannot hide behind the Lieutenant Governor."

"Look at how weak this government is. Who were they blaming for the Pahalgam attack. They (govt) blamed tour operators and said it was the tour operators Who took people to Baisaran without informing the government."

"The PM was in Saudi Arabia (when Pahalgam happened). What did you (PM) do? You did not take us (Opposition) in confidence when you came back. You went to Bihar to give a chunavi bhashan (poll speech)," he said.

Why Pahalgam's perpetrators haven't been caught yet, asks Gogoi

The entire Opposition stood behind the government to give Pakistan a befitting reply. But this country now wants to know why those responsible for the Pahalgam attack haven't been caught even after 100 days.

  • 28 July 2025 3:05 PM IST

How terrorists reached Pahalgam and gunned down 26 civilians, asks Gogoi

The truth of Pahalgam, the truth of Operation Sindoor, the truth of our foreign policy must come out from this discussion.

Rajnath Singh gave a lot of information today but did not tell us how terrorists came to Pahalgam, how 5 terrorists landed in Baisaran to gun down 26 civilians. This is today's information war. The Opposition is bound to raise questions in national interest.
